hmm... to my knowledge no human being has ever been able to survive with more than one extra chromosome.
Living in Houston, I'll take the great outdoors any chance I can get. Besides, the courses around town are as beautiful as most anything else in the city.
finally went to hit the sticks at the ol' driving range today...... it's been at least two months . but man, i was hitting em pretty good. felt awesome. really wish a could've played a round, especially since a buddy of mine from UT came down to play our school course with my old roomie...... but alas, class interfered. soon though, very soon........... edit: actually, i was wondering what kinda sticks yall carry.... i'm a beginner (only been playing for a year & 1/2), but i got a set of gun-metal Cleveland Tour Action 5's (SW-3W) and an Odyssey White Hit putter. no driver yet, but hopefully that'll change by summer's end.
Does anyone have any advice on getting started playing golf? My friend gave me his dad's old set of clubs and I'm interested in starting to play.
I know this sounds obvious, but ask around and find a good pro to take lessons from. Videos, swing coaching devices, all that crap...doesn't really work. Take some lessons to get the basic mechanics, then go hit a couple of buckets of balls everyday. I had a really good pro teach me how to play, he would also walk a couple of holes with you to teach you the full game. See if you can find one that will do that...and not just sit at the driving range all day. I think its pretty important to get lessons first, because if you go out and bang at buckets of balls, you teach your muscles the wrong way to swing, then it takes even longer to learn the correct way.
Very sound advice. The better you get, the more important the fundamentals are. If you learn the correct fundamentals early on, it makes improvement a lot easier.
i really started to play golf about 6 months ago. I bought a set of clubs and hit the golf course at least once every 2 weeks. Inbetween i'd go to the range once or twice just so i wouldn't embarrass myself come the weekend. If you can't afford lessons, or don't have the time to do it just keep practicing and it'll eventually click. 2 weeks ago it did for me, i am now driving the ball 270 to 310 yards each drive.
Right. Golf is a game of mechanics and practice...and you should have the mechanics first, then go practice!
