We'll see how he does, he looks like a strong hire for an assistant from the info I've read about him. Weaver’s system How Weaver has been so successful in his two years as a head coach – in two different hemispheres is with his defense. This past NBL season the Kings were by far the best defensive team leading the league in defensive rating (3.9 better than the second-best defensively rated team). Weaver’s bread and butter comes from turning defense into offense – the brand of basketball he runs is similar to the Warriors (which Bogut obviously influences) and Kenny Atkinson’s Nets. It was a mixture of switching and drop coverage, having multiple rangy and athletic wings while the bigs sat in the paint worked for the regular season — leading fast break opportunities for the Kings. https://hoopshabit.com/2020/10/21/will-weaver-nba-coaching-secret/ Long Island Nets (2018–2019) After Ronald Nored, former head coach of the Nets' NBA G League affiliate club the Long Island Nets, announced he was leaving the G League club, Weaver was brought in to replace him. In his single season with the club he led them to win their conference final but were unable to win the league final against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. After recording Long Island's best season performance since joining the League in 2016, Weaver was awarded the NBA G League Coach of the Year Award. Sydney Kings (2019–present) On March 22, 2019, Weaver was announced as the new head coach of the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League (NBL). In his first season with the club, the Kings were minor champions for the first time in over a decade and made it through to the grand final series. However, after three games the Kings indicated they did not wish to proceed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lost the series to the Perth Wildcats. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Weaver_(basketball)
As long it is not a version of Mavs defense, should be fine. Weaver is proponent of switching as well drop coverage. Add some 2-3 zone depending on opponent and its it's perfect.
Looking at the odds where Russ ends up and the makeup of our staff, one would assume a much needed rebuild is coming.
I hear what you're saying and I know that's what you're advocating but it doesn't sound to me like they're preparing to rebuild. Unless they trade Harden and I don't see that happening.
Heaven help us then. Randle needs to be diverted to another team, he should come nowhere near the Rockets. No defense chucker.
Nate Mcmillan is a FAR more experienced and accomplished nba coach. Expecting the most out of players and actually getting it, is too different things. We've already seen Nate get the most out of a mediocre Pacers team
Another prediction that came true. We didn't hire Mcmillan for our defense, and we're hurting now because of it. Weaver isn't the disciplinarian he is and this shows in every missed assignment. Some of you thought this was a good hire? WHERE IS ELSON TURNER WHEN YOU NEED HIM???
Where was this self righteous fury when Rockets were on 6-0 winning streak and had #1 defense in NBA? FYI, the Rockets OFFENSE is worst in NBA. Casual.
