At the time of the deal, I was told by a friend who knows some connected to the franchise that they viewed him as a former MVP caliber player. I was shocked then. I’m even more shocked now.
oh boy...this now has me worried that they’re gonna spend money on B and C tier level players in the offseason thinking they’re better than what they are in an effort to compete and be stuck on mediocre
Rockets may offer a ton of money but does he even want to stay here? Why would he? “Miami! Miami! Miami!”
Smart move on Stone's part. See if you can get him to stay for a figure closer to his actual worth than the max he wants. Now that you know he's not settling, you can deal him at the deadline and move on with a clear conscience. Enjoy your last few games in that uni, Vic. Assuming you actually see the court for them.
this has me thinking that even if we get a top 4 pick, they will look to trade it in order to compete and because they won’t want to wait years for a rookie to develop I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some Bradley Beal inquiries
I can't pretend to know what's going through the FO's mind, but there is reason to doubt that this was all part of a grander trade strategy. The team may see Oladipo as part of its long term core, and locking him down long term is not beyond belief. Let us hope it was all strategy, but I am not confident, to say the least.
I don’t think this was a Stone call. All he likes is flexibility. Iko says Silas was the guy. I just know someone thought Oladipo could be elite. I never agreed.
Your inside info just gets worse and worse for me. I'm still trying to give Silas some benefit of the doubt.
Silas clearly shouldn’t be a personnel guy. I actually think he’ll be a good coach and Stone a good GM. Just give it some time. Hopefully they get MPJ and if they can’t pull it off hopefully they get someone like Achiuwa or Thybulle just give us some youth. I’d even take Oubre or Winslow.
Those are a lot of ifs. Part of being a good coach, not even a great one, is identifying personnel that will maximize your system. Silas has a huge problem with this. HUGE.
Hey, honestly thank Vic for turning down the extension. U all dodged to bullet there! Also what’s the timeline here is this recently offered or just since the trade
I actually think Oladipo would mesh well with KPJ. Hopefully we see them together for a few games. Adding KPJ and Wood to this will do a lot to make tankers upset. Hopefully they don’t win too much. A lot of this is because of injury. We never had Harden go out for extended periods. Just everyone else and James could carry. No one can carry so we need a fully healthy squad on a team full of injury prone guys.
I think personally they only offered this knowing he’d turn it down given this is his payday offseason and their offer only being for two years would lock them out anyways. I don’t think Stone ever really made that trade thinking Dipo was the franchise cornerstone he was going to build around. No way. He made the trade to get the picks and the flexibility. He got a trial run with Dipo just in case he was a star in waiting but as @jiggyfly noted early not....he’s just not that type of player. This leak I think is Rockets driven to let the league know: A. He’s not re-signing here B. He’s worth ALOT C. He’s available at the deadline
Can somebody link to Iko saying this? Of course it was Stone's call no rookie head coach has that much pull.
