Tate by far is the best finisher on the team. Usually has 2 taller guys draped over him. Money at the rim. By contrast look at Wall. You can see he still has exceptional athleticism and can get to the rim. He has to be one of the worst finishers in the league. Did not follow him at WAS, so it might just be his injuries have him out of sync. But even worse he ends up hitting the deck and complaining, while his teammates are now stuck playing 4 on 5 defensively. You like to see guys hustle and layout for a loose ball, but I swear Wall hits the floor unnecessarily more than any Rocket I can remember. I digress. Tate is definitely a foundation piece. Hopefully, we acquire a true power toward and Tate plays the 3. He hit like 37% of his 3 in Sydney, so he is capable. Wood, Porter, Tate a good start moving forward.
I'd play him as a 2 .... and look for a little bigger guy at the 3 spot. KPJ Tate XX XX Wood Add a couple 6'8" 3D guys and lets go to battle. Tate as a 2 is gonna be able to play bully ball with most guards and he does pretty much everything you ask of a guard fairly well.
Come in now, our offense doesn’t allow for that type of play. Whose going to get him the ball in that position. Let him play at. If we’re not going to be bigger than our opponent , can we at least be faster at the positions in the floor. Can’t keep playing at a disadvantage
This is actually not a bad strategy. But you realize that Tate is most efficient defending 4's and 5's right?
Things I want - Tate to shoot more, bring ball up more, and be used in PnR more - him and Harden and Boogie made some nice connections
Playing Tate primarily as a 2 and against small backup 4's should be the future plan, unless he is traded as a piece. I don't think he will be moved.
Tate is a starting SF on a lower level team. Tate is a very good bench player on a championship level team.
I was laughing when the Warriors gave Donkey max money for his second contract. They laughed at the rest of the league. We don’t know what Tate can become but his +/- indicates he contributes more to wins than almost anyone else on the roster. Factor in that he played on an awful team and you have to wonder how much more impactful he would be on a contender.
Tate is definitely a good player, but he really needs a more consistent 3 point shot given how much better the league average has risen. He can improve that, but he is already 25 years old and has worked on improving his shot since college. So it is unclear how much he has left untapped. Ideally, he would be best on playoff team with a star who can create allow him to sit in the corner or attack the close out. Depending on the roster construction he could be a starter or be the 2nd guy off the bench. The issue though is that if he does really improve his 3 point shot, his market value will be very high and his cap hit won't justify him on the roster for many teams.
Call me crazy but Tate is the PG of the future for this team. He’s great at bringing the ball up and getting the offense in motion. Tate KPJ Cade Martin Wood Ya, I want Cade to start at one of the forward positions.
