Does it really matter? I think Wall could be a good piece on a contender, Westbrook cannot. What is Westbrook doing that Wall did not do with Beal?
The trade was a win-win. Russ would not have had the supporting cast here that he has in Washington. Beal, Hachimura, Bertans, Lopez, etc. makes for a solid team in the East. Bryant's injury was a big blow as he's a very good young player, but even without him they're an underrated team. Not a championship team, but certainly capable of making some noise. We would be as frustrated with Russ as we are with Wall, with lots of iso ball, bad shooting, and turnovers. Difference is we got a first round pick, which is very useful in rebuilding, and Wall is a better player to rebuild around I think, though time will tell.
You're making a good point, but Westbrook has made the playoffs many times in a more competitive West with less help. I think my point remains.
Our POR and DET picks have more protections. Maybe you’re thinking of the DET pick? WAS is: 2023 Top 14 (which simply means making the playoffs in the East) 2024 Top 12 2025 Top 10 2026 Top 8 (or 2026 2nd plus 2027 2nd) which means that 2026 2nd is 31-38
I don't see them making the playoffs in 2023 Russ will be horrible by then when his athleticism is gone and Beal maybe traded already.
I'm happy for Russ. Despite his shooting he was a solid player and person for us. I wish him the best, I like the guy!
I don't care if Russ wins it all this year, I would rather have John Wall and a 1st round pick. Also... I have yet to see any mention of Bradley Beal yet in this thread.... kind of an important point to just leave out wouldn't ya say OP?
