Because some democrats have a sincere view of ending of military industrial complex unlike the fake rhetoric that comes from Trump and his acolytes.

You're view of the Democrats is hilarious. Like they are angelic saints sent from the shining city on the hill to save us from the dark evil forces of the GOP.

Well... at least we agreed on something. And I think in the other thread we agree bombing people sucks right? So there is some hope.

The President has the sole authority to launch a nuclear attack. The existing limits might as well be no limits - they are the 25th amendment (too slow) or someone decided to not carry out an order.

This isn't the first time Congress wanted to curb the president's power to launch nuclear attacks (there were several requests after the Nixon drunken incident became public and many nuclear policy experts have argued for changes even before that incident). Polling has shown most Americans wanted a better balance. Now that we just have witnessed a mentally ill patient as President for the past 4 years, the need to curb this power is highlighted.

I’m fine with them pushing for this now.

With as insane as the GOP is, there’s a chance that crazy Georgia lady could one day be President. And she would likely bomb a US city.

Ya I have zero fear of Biden being irresponsible with nukes. It's about potential future lunatics.

Yes it's true that Democrats are anti-authoritarian and the GOP is pro-authoritarian. The GOP literally worships false idol supreme leaders (see literal gold idol of Trump at CPAC), and more than 100 Republicans in Congress voted to overturn a Democratic election in order to put back in power their Supreme leaders.

Your try here at trolling Democrats actually is a pretty damn good promotion of the Democratic party, and party Progressives. Any party that looks to pull power away from the Executive branch is doing it right by the ideals of our Founding Fathers to have a true Democracy, and not a Monarchy or Dictatorship.

Good, they should do this. The idea that the president is the sole authority for the use of nuclear weaponry is an artifact of the fact that the framers didn't really foresee the growth of the executive branch. The original intention was that Congress would be required for any war declaration but that isn't how things worked out in practice.

In fact, there have been two instances where the government informally revoked authority over nuclear weapons from the president. At the end of the Nixon administration, the secretary of defense supposedly told the joint chiefs to ignore any request by Nixon to use nuclear weapons and there's the recent story that Pelosi dropped where the joint chiefs were also told to ignore Trump when it came to the use of nuclear weapons.

Given that the DoD and Joint Chiefs are clearly willing to violate the chain of command in exceptional circumstances, lets just formalize a protocol for the use of nuclear weapons that requires multiple levels of approval.

Yup. I haven't read the details of the resolution but I'm willing to involve some nuance here and restrict the power only for preemptive strikes. Because I think a retaliatory or defensive strike needs quick decision making abilities.

But I see no reason why one man should hold the authority of launching nukes preemptively.

    agree

nuke sole purpose today is a deterrent

What makes it a much SAFER deterrent? I heard argument for codifying the conditions that would result in the use of it and to make it clear to the rest of the world. No confusion, no rash decision, no mistakes... of course, you leave room for improvision under very extraordinary circumstances, but that power still should not be with a single person. Not only the US should do this, but the UN and rest of the world, including NK. And yes, I think NK would welcome clear definition for its own security.

compared to the trump/Cruz/Marjorie green Taylor led maniacs of the Republican Party, heck yes, the Dems are saints saving us from the demon hoard.

if the republicans were to begin valuing truth again and turn backs on trumpism, that would not be the case. But yeah, the Dems are protecting the country against trump the unholy antichrist.
