Honestly, I am surprised! I would have thought he would have been more interested in the Atlanta franchise where he probably would have more control over player personnel and molding the team. Clearly in Boston he wont have much, if any, say in putting the team together.

I dont see the Boston job as a very attractive one.

I hope Danny Ainge hasn't set up Doc Rivers to fail, given the questionable trades Danny has made this year.

What, was he forced to drop the 's' off the end of his name as a condition of the signing? ;)

with all the talk about Rivers being the premier candidate this off season, i'm a little surprised he would take this job as well. but purely speculatively, a couple things may be the cause here.

    A) ainge gives him a really good deal, and lots of power over personel decisions.... but i don't really see that.

    B) with the likes of Pat Riley and Don Nelson possibly looking for new jobs, maybe Rivers just wants to lock on up asap.

    C) boston, despite it's recent struggles, is a storied franchise. and if he can make the celtics win, the fans will make him a lengend.

Excellent choice on both sides. Doc and Ainge are both PG's and they probably wanted to get an early jump on things. In the draft, the Celtics have three 1st rounders - #15, #24, & #25. They also have 12 players with 2004 contracts and can only protect 8 from Charlotte.

I'm not sure this is a good fit, but what the heck do I know...I think BScott would have been a better fit or even RudyT...

The Celts just don't have the players to win...

Here is a team that didn't even want to make the playoffs. It's gotten bad in Boston.
