With all the speculation going on around here about possibly moving up I think that too many of you are setting yourselfs up for a major dissapointment if we don't. Personally I don't want to make that mistake, I'll take what ever happens as long as we get players that will be of some kind of help next season, to me that is all that matters even if we don't get a future "star" as long as we get good quality players I'll take it. Personally the only team I think we may have a chance with is the Bulls, but I can see us wanting to trade our 13th and 18th and wanting to keep our 23rd but I see the bulls wanting all 3 of them and that might be the deal breaker... at #23 I see us taking Morris from Maryland, why? mainly because according to reports it seems that he did pretty good during workouts here in H-town and he has extra help in Francis having personally given his recommendation, and you always want to keep your star player(s) happy, Francis being our star player I see us trying to acomodate his desires. ------------------ When will I reach 1000 posts ?
3pointer has a great way of summing up the board in his infrequent posts, doesn't he. I with you. I am not too worried about trading up, either. If we fail, it was because the other team(s) were asking too much. I am one of the believers that Rudy/CD have a top 5 record throughout the league on draft day. The only thing that I will be disappointed in is if we go to camp with 3 first round rookies. I don't want those guaranteed contracts. If we don't trade up to rid us of a pick, we need to trade one down into the 2nd round or for a future 1st-rounder. If we can't do either, we need to package one in a summer trade. If we fail to do all three, I will know we failed on most all our trade attempts throughout the summer, likely because we continue to have no good trade bait.
Cato, Kenny, Jason and Walt doesn't constitute good trade bait??? Something could be said for not having 7 players as FAs draft time. So Cato 'retired 2 years ago', Kenny is the only PF, Jason came off an ACL tear was it? Walt is better behind 23' than inside of it (though w/ the ball on the floor around the ft line was money). *sigh* I'm sticking to the mantra just to manage my own expectations: I'd rather have the 13, 18 and 23 than the #1. At least the 13 and 18 can be moved for Joe Joe Power Johnson. Would the Rockets really rather have an 18 and count on Vlad falling?
My dream is for the Rockets to trade all their picks this year for future considerations. I will be laughing my ass off at all the summer fantasy mongers!
Damn, I've been out of it. When did The Cat become a mod? BTW, I have no problem with the Rockets not moving up in the draft, but as I said in another post, we better not head into training camp with three rookie contracts on our hands or we're looking at a few more seasons out of the playoffs. I have faith that Rudy and Co. will pull something out of the bag before all is said and done. ------------------ Anger is a weed. Hate is a tree.
You beat me to it. I was about to type the exact same thing. What I'll laugh at is the trading of all picks for future picks. Or we end up with just the #23 or #18. Talk about some pissed off prognosticators. ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...
Damn, I've been out of it. When did The Cat become a mod? Just recently... I needed to be able to check IP's in the fantasy forum, because several people (cough, BandGeekMobster, cough) became conspiracy theorists and started to think some posters had more than one team in the league I host. DOD, Actually that wouldn't be funny at all. ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. CD and Rudy spoke to the media this afternoon. They didn't say anything Earth shattering. Basically, the team is looking for size, shooting, and someone who fits the team. ------------------ Don't think....just throw. Don't think....just throw.
Our newest Rockets: Joe Johnson/T. Morris Steven Hunter/Loren Woods I would be happy with any combo of these players. ------------------
To all, Just a thought on the three rookie scenario. My guess is that if the Rocks are stuck with all three picks, they will opt to send the appropriate pick to Vancouver (per the Steve Francis trade agreement) to eliminate that committment. At this point only #13 complies, but my guess is that Vancouver would accept a combination of #18 and a future second rounder or other similar considerations. Now if we could only convince them to take Cato! Oh, thats right....Chicago wants him??? ------------------
My dream is that TheFreak learns how to be a Rockets fan this summer. His quote above is far from it.
I don't think the rox want to go w/3 rookies either, mainly due to our situation in the FA market. Either that or we do what we did last yr. We draft someone w/say our 18th pick and trade him to another team for that teams 1st rounder in next yrs draft. Warning: do not enamor yourself w/whom ever you hear the rockets drafted because as was the case last yr. (if you guys remember correctly) when ever we drafted Najera there was a poster (forgot his name) that was sooooo static about that pick just to be majorly disapointed a few min. later as we traded Najera to the Mavricks... I felt bad for the dude ! do u guys remember who am talking about? he was making a big deal about us drafting Najera.... it was both funny and sad, anyways, just wait till that night is over w/so we have a better knowledge who we will end up with. ------------------ When will I reach 1000 posts ?
3-pointer, That would be SooneRockStro, who also proclaimed Najera would have a big impact this season and that he would be a future all-star if I remember correctly. ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. Now that you mention it, I hope even more that we do manage to trade up. Otherwise, a year from now someone will post as if itwas a commonly known fact that the Bulls wanted to trade their #4 straight-up for Cato but the Rockets didn't want to pull the trigger. I don't think there is much danger of disappointment if the Rockets stand pat. The disappointment will come when they announce #13 and no one recognizes the name. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
I personally have problems believing Chicago wants Cato, why would they? because of their coach? come on, Jerry Krause may look dumb as hell but at least give him credit for having some fat cells...err.... living cells in that brain of his !!!!!! ------------------ When will I reach 1000 posts ?
If the Rocket draft fell this way, there would be some irate fans stamping their feet in the remaining mud puddles from the other recent Houston disaster: 13. Troy Murphy 18. Brendan Haywood 23. Michael Bradley I almost hope it happens just for the hoot this board would become! ------------------ "How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak.
