He had one in Bledsoe. Didn't do much with him. He also had Testeverde. Belichick's reputation really came from the one year with Cassel where he almost made the playoffs. However, that team went undefeated the season before.
Think you could make a strong case now that Brady has proven, all you need is a QB, and that the rest of the team is nearly irrelevant. He took a shiot team and instantly won the superbowl, and he's been doing this for two decades now.
I wouldn't say irrelevant or even nearly so, because he did go to a pretty stacked team in the buccs, more so with the additions. Most important position for sure, so much so that no matter how good everyone else is around you, if you have a weakness at qb, eg jameis, you're not going anywhere. Still beyond amazing ofc. Just don't think if we had brady next year for instance, he'd be taking the texans to the sb.
The 2019 Bucs were a pretty good team with a top-tier coach and a terrible 30-INT QB that dragged them down. They had an elite defense and receiving talent, plus an outstanding line. They just had Jameis Winston. QB is vital, but it's clearly not all you need. If it was, Rodgers would be in the Superbowl every year - he's been by far the best QB in the NFC over the last decade-plus.
On top of that, Brady has taken pay cuts in order to ensure the Patriots could sign other players to help. It really is a great competitive advantage when your QB does that ESPECIALLY considering the parity the league has from year to year. Brady is the GOAT - no question. He was fortunate to be with Bill and the Patriots, but he had just as much reasons to do with their success.
“Kraft, Brady, Belichick and the Patriots declined to be interviewed by Wickersham for the book, but they are quoted from on-the-record interviews with the author from the past two decades. The Patriots did not respond to requests for comment on this story.
Thought I'd reiterate this since it was buried in the middle of a bunch of quotes. BoB drove the Texans into the ground instead of just saying "I be don't want to be here" and resigning.
Go ahead and enjoy the read but honestly good for them, compared to whatever the hell happened to the Cowboys in the mid '90s when they could have probably been exactly this successful for that long.
