You don't ignore the data. Every year many teams have cap space and no QB and just stay struggling. You can have that.

27 years says you can't pay a QB as much as Watson will be making and win a championship.

Well duh. The cap has been rising so team haven't been paying any player this much. I do know that the QB of one of the teams in the SB is getting paid more.

That's why the Chiefs lost. They paid Mahomes too much. Had they paid him 10 million less, they would have won that game easily.

For. the last 27 years 14 percent is the cutoff you can pay your QB if you want to win a championship.

Wait until you get the deal you want.

I think it will come down to Carolina and Miami.

10 potential cap casualties who could help rebuild the Texans’ roster

As long as Deshaun Watson’s futureis uncertain, the Texans’ offseason plans will be hard to forecast. The team might not pick until the third round, or it might pick second overall. It might have a top-five quarterback, or it might need a new one.

No matter where Watson plays next season, at least one thing is clear: Houston is unlikely to be a big spender when unrestricted free agency begins March 17. Sure, J.J. Watt’s releasealone puts the Texans more than $5 million under the projected capwhile they still have ways to create space, but Houston released Watt for a reason. Despite team chairman Cal McNair’s resistance to the term, the Texans are entering a rebuild. With so many holes on the roster, it’s illogical to make splashy, win-now free agency signings — especially coming off a season when the Texans, who typically rank in the middle of the pack in spending, had the most expensive roster in football.

Nick Caserio’s best signings in his first offseason as Texans general manager could occur before unrestricted free agency even begins. Players who have been cut by other teams can sign new contracts before the start of free agency, and because they tend to be veterans who aren’t playing up to a big cap figure, they can offer good value in bounceback seasons. These players also don’t count toward the compensatory pick formula, which could be important to Caserio. The Patriots, his longtime former employer, got the most value out of comp picks of any team during the past four years.

The Athletic’s NFL staff recently highlighted potential cap casualties for each team. Here are players from that list who could fill the Texans’ needs. The number in parentheses represents age at the start of the 2021 season.

Bills WR John Brown (31): In 2019, Brown caught 72 passes for 1,060 yards as Buffalo’s top receiver, but this season he only played in nine games and saw Stefon Diggs take a substantial cut of his target share. If the Texans don’t retain Will Fuller, Brown could be a cheaper, short-term option with a history of producing in a featured role. As of now, the Texans still have veteran receivers Brandin Cooks and Randall Cobb each set to count for more than $10 million against the 2021 cap.

Bears CB Kyle Fuller (29): Unlike a lot of other names on this list, Fuller wouldn’t come cheap. He’s a two-time Pro Bowler who hasn’t missed a start in the past four seasons. He’s also set to count for $20 million against the cap in 2021, potentially making Fuller a cap casualty and one of the best free agent corners in a weak offseason for the position. If there’s one spot the Texans should consider spending big on, it might be corner. Their lack of depth at that position was exposed after Gareon Conley spent 2020 on IR and Bradley Roby received a six-game suspension that ended his regular season.

Lions CB Justin Coleman (28):Quarterbacks had a rating of 135.8 when throwing in the direction of Coleman, a slot corner who just finished the second-year of a four-year, $36 million contract. Coleman is still on the right side of 30, though, with a history of strong play in his past. And Caserio has familiarity with him: Coleman spent his first two NFL seasons with the Patriots, before New England traded him for a seventh-round pick.

Titans CB Malcolm Butler (31):Another former Patriot, Butler has spent the past three seasons with the Titans. Last year was his best one yet in Tennessee, but his age could limit his market if he’s released. Though his production would probably be falling off by the time the Texans are ready to contend again, Butler could provide some veteran leadership and a Super Bowl pedigree to what should be an overhauled set of corners.

S Ricardo Allen (29): Released by the Falcons on Thursday, Allen could become the fourth safety in four years the Texans slot next to Justin Reid. The four-time captain for Atlanta suffered an Achilles tendon tear in 2018 but has played in 28 games since. During that span, he’s totaled four interceptions and 13 pass breakups.

Chargers RG Trai Turner (28):After making five consecutive Pro Bowls for Carolina from 2015-19, Turner had a disappointing first season with the Chargers. A lingering groin strain limited him to just nine games, and he struggled in those contests. Turner is still relatively young, though, and he offers a high upside. He could be worth the gamble for a Texans team that struggled at both guard spots and could look to move on from starting right guard Zach Fulton, at minimum.

Giants RG Kevin Zeitler (31): He’s older than Turner but could be another option to replace Fulton. A 2012 first-round pick, Zeitler has played in 16 games in five of the past six seasons. He’s the only proven member of the Giants’ offensive line, so The Athletic’s Dan Duggan thinks an extension/restructure is possible.

Buffalo DT Quinton Jefferson (28): In his final two seasons with Seattle, Jefferson totaled 25 QB hits. He then underwhelmed in the first year of a two-year, $13.8 million deal with the Bills. If he’s able to rebound, he’d be an upgrade for one of the league’s worst defensive lines.

Eagles DE Derek Barnett (25): It’s likely Philadelphia will try to sign Barnett to a back-loaded extension that lowers his cap hit in 2021, when he’s playing on his fifth-year option. But if the Eagles have to part with a young, starting-caliber edge rusher, the Texans should pursue him. Among pass rushers 25 years or younger, only Nick Bosa, Carl Lawson, Montez Sweat and Brian Burns played as many snaps as Barnett in 2020 and produced more sacks and quarterback hits on a per-snap basis.

Saints DT Malcom Brown (27):When Caserio was with the Patriots, the team didn’t like Brown enough to pick up his fifth-year option. But at a lower price, maybe Caserio has a favorable view of the 2015 first-round pick. In 29 games with the Saints over the past two seasons, Brown has recorded seven QB hits and nine TFLs.

Depends who’s offering more first round picks.

CMC and 3 first rounders I’m taking that over

    Tua and 2 first

But I know the backlash the Texans would get by taking another high paid RB for the teams best player.

No way either is enough. Tua, 3 Firsts, 3 seconds.

Can we pick a better player in return than Tua? Since he sucks and we’d no doubt use a pick on a QB anyway

I’d be ok with that. The 3 firsts and 3 seconds is a must. I’m ok if we don’t get QB or any other players, but then they need to add some additional picks. Maybe a couple of 4ths.
