Think you missed the whole point of my post. We should be helping the co tenders by taking back their bad contracts in exchange for draft picks and solid role players. I don't want any of the players they are giving us. It's the assets we can get back with them. Then when they become expiring contracts they are way more valuable.
Gotcha but I think we have enough valued assets now in Dipo, Wall, Gordon, PJ, etc... That should net a good young haul (see my list) so you can start playing these guys with Wood. We can't waste Wood's prime in the next 3 years.
Yea, young enough, good enough, and possibly cheap enough with his next contract, as a solid backup PG.
The first step towards being serious about rebuilding is embracing a draft strategy. To get a good chance at a franchise changing player you’ve got to be early lotto. We have multiple incentives to try to be in the mix for a top 4 pick. We’ve got to trade vets who aren’t part of our future (Gordon, Dipo, PJ) and give the court time to our young guys and player development. What will be will be; no one is suggesting we lose intentionally. But I just don’t see the benefit of keeping those kind of guys around at this point. It doesn’t help us get better in the long term and it doesn’t help us get a top 4 draft pick.
it would be a real treat for this Organization to get their hands on a talent like: cade Cunningham or Jalen Suggs or my favorite Jonathan Kuminga ... It would be a great step in the right direction.
Rookie deals are the best deals - I just push one piece of paper across the table and they gotta sign it! - BiG Ch33sE T33 3F
Having them bunched up hedges losing their pick and getting top 4 pick. Right now if the draft order was set, we'd be getting #8.
Guys u are forgetting ....we can trade the top four pick for a great player,all-star...happens all the time So the anti-tank crowd saying don't tank cuz a 19 yr old will take yrs to groom...I agree but......I still say tank cuz we can use that pick as leverage If we play hard and get Miami's pick ,say 15th, u can forget trading it for an allstar cuz that pick has little value
So no matter how u guys try to spin the narrative to, not tank,......I think it's beneficial long term to tank...trade or draft ur options increase with a top 4 pick
The point is looking at all of the draft assets out there that can help you as if you are cheating at the past few years of the lottery you wasted under Morey throwing away picks. Right now the Warriors and Knicks have picks from other teams WE value. Warriors have the high Wolves lottery pick. WE want that so we could take on Wiggins. Wiggins is PERFECT for us. Still young, durable and in the last year of his deal he is TRADEABLE. Taking that pick is incredibly value to us but not as much the Warriors. They are getting Klay back and they want to be armed now in their player's primes. I think a package of Gordon and Tucker would be valuable to them and it could be provide them massive LTS if they decide to move on from Tucker. Knicks are THIRSTY for playoffs and cannot get stars. This is where Dipo and maybe next year Wall come along. They have the Mavs pick. We want that and can use offset salaries from Magic in 3 way trade. Regardless, we can open cap space. At the same time, we can likely package Exum in one of these deals. I'm not into trading for Collins but I might be interested in signing him. Gordon and Bamba interest me depending on how cheaply I can get them in package. After 2022 we can open 2 max slots and then with those wonderful rookie contracts and even Wood you get to cheat by adding two max players and keeping and resigning all of those. It doesn't necessarily have to happen that way but the rebuild can be quick with amazing assets for years to come.
