We should have been tanking from the time Zion was available w/ Morant. Remember that Tyler Herro was available until the 13th pick that year.

Agree on the sentiment. However, I don't think you can really judge Silas yet. With covid this season was always going to be a mess. Mix in the drama with James and now Wood's injury and he is dealing with a ton on and off the court. Given that he has been a target of the rockets going back to before MDA being hired I'm inclined to think there's something there with him. Everything else? Trash.

yeah, he’s dealing with a lot...the offense looks painful tho...I’d understand being 28th in passes per game and 3rd in isolation frequency if we still had Harden and were taking advantage of his godly ISO abilities, but not with this low talent roster

for the pro-tankers, i understand and generally agree w/ the notion

but at the same time i have to question the legitimacy of the lottery and whether silver would allow us a top 4 pick. just a couple seasons back it was obviously rigged for the LAL-NOP trade setup. we have the brokest owner in sports -- why would silver route (and squander) a top prospect his way?

Do you want a coin flip of a chance to get a top 4 pick in an apparently strong draft or no chance? What is the probability that a mediocre finish to this season that leaves the Rockets with the 14th-20th pick improves the Rockets future more than a top 4 pick does?

When your first argument is " Consider team that tanked and is now in 1st place and oh yeah also has our former management" you need to reevaluate your premise.

If we didn't want to tank we'd just have taken Caris LeVert with our trade. The direction from the ownership is clear.

Does tanking mean moving Oladipo, Tucker, Gordon, and House if possible. Because that's not really tanking, that's making shrewd basketball moves for expiring contracts and a guy enjoying a one season renaissance.

Early on, 2/3 of those polled were against tanking.
Glad more of you are seeing the light.
I've never wanted to tank in my life, but at this point its the smart play....
Just like it was early on!

well this is the question i posed -- would we really have a coin flip chance? again, the odds that NOP ends up w/ the 1st overall pick AND the fakers end up w/ the 4th pick in the 2019 draft were ridiculously minute. in the same summer that the league just happened to desperately need to rebuild LAL w/ AD before leroids' window closed. again, the behind-closed-doors-conducted lottery looks to be a rigged sham, which simply does not portend well for our situation

OKC has the option to take the two best picks among three teams - OKC , Houston and Miami.

Finishing with a similar record to OKC doesn't nullify the value of the swap. Miami also has to be in the same vicinity record wise for that to be true and even then , you get the worst of the 3 picks.

The way teams are built in this era of the NBA , no one way is going to make a championship happen.

You need 2-3 stars and a couple other very good players. You aren't likely to draft 3 stars or get them all thru FA or trade.
Its going to take a mix of good decisions from drafting to trade / FA to field that championship team.

What you need is a pile of assets that enables you to acquire a star (or two) to pair with someone you have drafted or signed via FA.

I think we have the first guy in place in Wood and at least one good piece in Tate.

They have the draft assets to acquire another star and maybe two , they also have one contract to move out to bring in a star in Olidapo , and maybe you could use EG's contract to bring in another. Wall's contract is tough to deal with until next year.

They also don't have those stars looking to come here right now .... they just gotta wait for that to come to them and in the mean time continue to pile up assets & draft well.

They really don't have anyone to run the offense thru. Wall is scoring more than distributing & they just don't have another capable guard.

None of these guys are particularly good setting picks - aside from PJ and he's really no threat from anywhere.

Then you take Wood out of the picture and the whole thing crumbles. Spacing goes to **** , no one can shoot.

Not a whole lot of offensive talent on this team for Silas to work with.

If we could could trade Oladipo and Tucker for any type of upgrade... that would be satisfying.

The cold weather must be clouding your judgment my friend. It's possible that the Rockets could have enough health to put together a winning streak and compete for the playoffs. But if you think that they'd "make some noise" then I think you're letting your heart overrule your head. We may not be one of the worst teams in the nba. But we are certainly closer to being one of the worst than we are to being a decent team.
