I'm looking for ideas to decorate my backyard for my mom's birthday party next Saturday. We don't want to do balloons, and I already have tiki torches and string lights for night. I need some daytime decoration ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

The bar will be kickin' and my dad is bringing over his homebrew kegorator for this special occasion.

I'm afraid to say that the Rockets theme has been changed for now. (too depressing) :(

Sorry for impeding like this, but since you made a thread and others are brainstorming, I thought I'd post and get you guys to help me too :)

My 18th birthday is coming up, but I don't know what to do. I want to do something where all my friends [girls and guys] can enjoy themselves too [no strip clubs and I don't wanna go clubbing]. We're planning to do it around 6 or 7 until whenever.

    Ideas:
    eating
    gokarting
    bowling

Thanks in advance, you guys :)

You guys should all have a fake mustache party. It's the ultimate icebreaker and adds that element of sophistication. Fake mustaches are on the rise, I'm tellin ya.

Also, as soon as I get home from school, I'm gonna do a pool-centric event. Virgin everything of course. ;)

For my graduation party and a couple birthday things, I've gotten moonwalks and they've gone over really well. Volleyball is great as well.

Donkey rides and clowns.... not so much.

Not a bad idea, but I already know everyone in my family. I once went to a birthday party for a guy where everyone had to dress like the birthday guy and try to look like him. That was great.

I need cool decoration ideas, funny ones would be great.

I am the mighty tiki god! Put me near your "boom box"! Serve gifts of beer and fruit!

    -----------------------------------

Bowling sounds good. 18. Wow. That was a long time ago. Hope you have fun. I personally like putt-putt golf, too. But then...I'm old. You could skate.

Hire some of those people who pose as statues. I've found that the naked ones covered in silver paint establish a comfortable atmosphere.

So... I was thinking of Ann's request and I thought - night out at Miller Outdoor Theatre. You can pack a picnic and a cooler with - beverages - and enjoy the stars and the cool grass and culture. Woo. A plus is to hit the museums or the fountains and area attraction first. Or just the park and frisbee or whatnot. Whatever makes you happy.

    Here's a few things soon :

    14-16 8:00 pm
    FRI-SUN * Cinderella
Based on the timeless fairy tale, Houston Ballet's magical production of Cinderella is an ideal introduction to classical dance with exqusite music, costumes, and scenery. Presented by Houston Ballet Foundation
    15 11:00 am
    SAT Dance, Dance, Dance
Cookie Joe presents a celebration of dance and theatre for all ages that features The JAZZ CO. and Ballet Grace. Come join the fun. Presented by Asian American Dance Company

There's other cuture stuff I could mention but its closed on Sat. at 7:00. Thurs night at the museum is good, and coffee at Brazil after.

It's often fun to dress up a bit. You get a chance to pay an easy compliment. You could try a real ballet, if not Cinderella.
The cheap seats are $ 11.00, and you can move down in the second act. This is also true at the opera. Students can even get fantastic seats 15 min before some shows. The dancers are amazing, esp up close. A play can be good. IBP has something going right now. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea, though. But then, I've did that avant theatre thing before 15-20 years ago and its old to me - maybe not to you.

What else? Hmm. You can test drive a car. Try on a perfect dress at Ralph Lauren, or perfect shoes at Kenneth Cole. Don't buy it.

    getting tired now.

Thanks, pasox2 :) The picnic part sounds like fun! The thing is that it's gonna be with my 2-3 different groups of friends. It'd be lots of fun if it were with one group.
It's gay because several of my close friends can't make it because 1. work, 2. gotta go home early because prom the next day, 3. band trip, etc. and I have my last fencing tournament on Saturday.

    any other ideas, guys? :)

Since you don't want to go to a strip club, just hire the stripper to come to you

Check out Arne's. They've got a ton of different party themes for all ages. Their stuff is pretty cheap too.

I just wanna hang out and spend some quality time with my friends on my birthday since we're all probably gonna grow apart next year.

fencing while extremely drunk.. lol sounds like fun.. but not for me :) I don't want to remember my 18th birthday as 'Yeah I got wasted' 20 years from now.

Hey, better than,"Yeah I got stabbed for my 18th birthday, but you should see my friends". That's what I'd worry about. Drunk girls swinging foils would be the worst invention since AND1 became the premier basketball fundamentals teaching tool.

Where you going to college at btw? I don't think UT has a fencing team, but would that be posh or what?

And yeah, after high school, you only keep in contact with the people who really matter. You see people around town but its just a passing hello deal. Very end-of-Stand-By-Me-ish.

lol drunk ppl fencing : AND1
I'm guessing you know a thing or two about fencing? I think UT does have a fencing club. UT Arlington at least.. I'm going to UH; I'm still debating whether I should continue fencing or not.

Yeah.. This is gonna be one of the last times I'm gonna be with some of my good friends from school, so I'm just taking advantage of it :) My very best friends are all staying in Houston, so it's all gravy. It's most of my close/good friends who are going away.. :(

Only from James Bond Movies. ;)

Eh, but my friend wants to take classes this summer for it. That or boxing. Either sounds interesting.
