On another politics board for MN politics I'm seeing anger towards TX. There is resentment that TX is now asking for emergency help after Cruz and other TX politicians had been talking about how great things are doing there with low taxes as compared to "liberal" states like MN. The feeling is that while states like MN with higher taxes have been doing more to prepare for disasters and regulate industries while TX has been taking businesses with low taxes while skimping on disaster preparedness and regulation. I saw a post saying "Elon Musk and Joe Rogan should bail out TX instead of relying upon taxpayers in other states."

Also there is still memory of when Cruz asked for federal aid following Harvey while trying to stop aid for Sandy and other disasters in other states. Also given that Cruz and others were critical of MN's handling of the George Floyd riots and are resistant to any aid going to help rebuild Minneapolis.

Ron Paul voted against aid for people after Hurricane Ike. He was Galveston's Congressman. No realer than that

There is something they aren't telling us. I really want to hear from Juan. At this point he may not be able to discuss this freely

What they aren't telling you is this is the price of deregulation.

That's no excuse. We have had freezing weather routinely. Yes this is historic cold but freezing is freezing. I think this is more of a failure of planning. IOW I don't think it's a structural failure. I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I just think this was more avoidable than they are telling us. I think this is more of a short-term planning failure

Really? Sounds exactly like what Republicans did during the pandemic. Money, power, and greed over doing what was needed to save lives.

LOL yeah right. If it doesn't benefit him, he doesn't do it. Helping hands are not the Trump family's way of life. They'd give you water and then charge you $5 a bottle.

Can't say I blame them, but you could remind them that a whole bunch of people down here didn't have any say in this matter and are pissed even moreso.

I can't believe this idiot or anyone thinks an area as large as Texas is mostly dependent on windmills. That's totally ridiculous.

Its 20% of electricity generation in TX and even that number is surprisingly large

On a side note one of the issues with wind generation is power dissipates the further it moves along lines so you think all those wind farms are in west Texas but they can't fuel the entire state

Big Government doing its job. Biden keeping his promises.

    Don’t see companies doing this.

    Enjoy it while it lasts.

People want to secede/split up and get violent over it, doncha know?

I wonder how many people had their homes/apartments/belongings/etc ruined because of this mess?

No, freezing is not freezing. We only use the word freezing in direct relation to water. This goes beyond water issues. There are countless of mechanical failures that happen as it gets colder and colder.

So yes, regulations is a massive issue. Regulations is what precipitates planning.

I'm not pro or anti de regulation but plenty of markets are deregulated. So I wouldn't lay the blame there either

What are some examples of the mechanical failures? I hear that the natural gas pumping stations failed but what does that mean specifically?

Im not a generator specialist. Certain fluids, lubricants, seals, ect... can be degraded at zero degrees and work perfectly fine at 20 degrees. If you read the fine print on many items, they will give an operational temperature range. Apparently Texas generators can't operate below 20 degrees.
