Right call, but not strict enough. The "goon tactics" of Geiger have no place in basketball. I think the league (and the fans) got fed up with this kind of crap back in the days of Lambier and Mahorn. You can't even call Geiger's actions "tough defense" - looked like he was trying to injure, intentionally. ------------------ "Who Wants To Be A Rocket?" - and probably a millionaire as well. The off-season will be interesting!
Bobby's right. I don't think Geiger was trying to hurt Miller, but he was definitely going after him. I appreciate a hard foul better than most, but Geiger's fouls were over the line. I though the punishment was a little harsh, but not completely out of line. As for the fine on the organization, I thought that was a great idea. Brown had an opportunity at the half to tell Geiger that being aggressive was good but flagrant fouls were not. The team has a responsibility to rein in its players and the Sixers did not do that. ------------------
I agree with Bobby and Juan. The league can't allow a team to send out some crap ass player to incite the other team's star, and have them serve the same suspension, when one team would obviously be hurt more by it. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
If one good thing comes out of it at least the theory that the league always works against small-market teams like Indiana should be burst. I am rooting for Indiana in the series because Croce seemes like a jackass (I thought this well before this incident), but in this case I think he is right. The 2 game suspension and fining the team (unless the NBA caught Brown lips saying hurt Miller or something) seems a bit much. I would think a 1 game suspencion for both players and holding solely Geiger responsible would have been the more appropriate action. Geiger himself basically his action was retaliation (thus intentional) for hard fouls on Iverson, but I don't get where the organization should have been responsible. ------------------
Speaking of trying to provoke star players, what the hell was up with Rick Fox last night!? The guy was clearly going after Robinson, and he made a fool of himself in the process.
I disagree with all of you The sixers are trailing 3 games to 1. Geiger is just letting the Pacers (and Bird) know that they will not go down without a fight. If any of you are old enough to remember, Bird and the Celtics used these exact same tactics against the Lakers. The suspensions are rediculous. The NBA doesn't want hard nosed basketball anymore, they want more showtime, like the Fakers. Give me a break David Stern, paaaalease. ------------------ You just want to be on the side thats winning.
Who remembers the chief punching Lambier while the refs turned a blind eye. Then LameBier tried to tell the refs. Or how about Larry Bird whizzing the ball at 70 mph at his face from 20 feet away, through a crowd as I recall it. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited May 15, 2000).]
Were any punches thrown by Geiger during/after the flagrant foul incident? I don't remember seeing any. I see the league is handing out suspensions for flagrant fouls now? Miller didn't throw a punch either (push/slap not= punch). Why was he suspended? 2 games for Geiger? I don't get it. And then trying to fine the organization for it? Huh?! Croce should tell them to kiss his ass (he practically did, way to go Pat). ------------------ "We're sitting there, shooting alcohol into our veins... We could just drink it!" -Tommy Lee
I remember those events Heypartner...loved both of them. Laimbeer and I didn't get along. He didn't even know me. Off topic, but similar content...did you guys see Rick Fox lose his head and continually just grab Cliff Robinson two times down the floor. Two techs, and then ejected. What was he thinking? Must not be getting much sleep with the new baby and all. ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back!
