I'm not really pro tanking, at least not extended tanking. The success rate (in terms of building an actual title contender) is so miniscule it doesn't justify the awful basketball, particularly given our pick protections this season. However I'm also not a fan of going in on a team that's not good enough. Signing Oladipo to an extension was never gonna be a smart move, I'm still unsure of what exactly their mindset was when they brought him aboard. If they were merely looking for expiring contracts, they could have been much more creative and likely gotten extra assets back.
It was Stone’s first bad move and what a horrible move it was. Still can’t believe we gave away Levert, Prince, and Allen for basically nothing.
Having the worst record in the league would give them a 52% chance of landing a top 4 pick. That leaves a 48% chance of getting the #5 pick and sending it to OKC. Those aren't odds I'd like as a GM ..... basically a coinflip of sending a top 5 pick to OKC. Understand that is assuming you have the absolute worst record and every spot you move up from that reduces your chances incrementally. Its pretty much the same situation Minny is in this season .... They owe GSW their pick top 3 protected this year and have a 60% chance to fall outside that top 3 even with the worst record. That franchise and its fans are gonna be f@cking sick when they send GSW #4 or #5 after the season they have endured. IF they keep their pick this year , its unprotected next year ....
Unless you get a superstar back in return James Harden trade was always going to be a losing proposition. That's the only saving grace for Oladipo because otherwise he is nothing special.
There will be no blessings as long as Tilman runs this team. You want proof? He was handed an elite team when he became an owner. Look at its state 3 years later. He will find a way to ruin things.
But we have our pick this year if we're in the bottom 4. If we are not in the bottom 4 we lose our pick. That's why some of us want to tank so badly.
or he just witnessed nba wouldnt allow him to win 2 years in a row despite having the best team, so why bother?
If this is the case and he has resigned to putting cheap and garbage product on the court, then as a fan, why bother giving him money and supporting his cheap product? You are being hoodwinked just like he hoodwinked people at first when he said that he does not have a problem paying luxury taxes.
We are currently tied with OKC and Miami for the 7th worst record in the NBA. So if we ball out and barely make/miss the playoffs, we will probably keep our 14-16 pick. If we tank and Miami plays about the same, we would get their 10-13 pick. So 52% to get a top four pick, 48% to get a 5-13, or 100% chance at a 14-16 pick. All this for one year of Brodie...
So you don't want a 52% percent chance of getting a top 3 pick and would rather forfeit the pick anyway?
The thing is we aren't very good.... regardless of injuries. The odds are the odds and we can't do anything about it.
