A couple of games back Stan Van Gundy noticed Josh Hart was destroying us off the bench and allowed to play 40 minutes x 20 points and freaking Dennis Rodman 17 rebs. Silas may have seen Eric Gordon playing poorly (I know I did) during the game (minus 40 for the game); but he brought EGo off the bench the next game......Oladipo starting vs Heat. But I expect rookie head coaches to make recognizing and adapting issues year one and two.
I applaud Silas, a first year coach, willing to play a rookie as a starter. Majority of Rocket's coaches haven't even played rookies, much less started them.
Frankly we don’t even know what Silas’ goal is this season . We don’t know what it’s been like for coaches with Covid . In your first season , to have to have a major shift in practice / living situation like this is crazy ... granted everyone is dealing with it . but back to his goal . It’s easy to bash MDA , and I did , because we knew he was trying to win every single game . He would play guys through injury , run short rotations , play the lineup he thought has the best advantage for like 40 min ... We can question those tactics because we knew the strategy and goal was to win and win a championship. what are Silas’ true expectations for this team and what are our aspirations. We have so many injuries this year . Silas has the core of 3 very good very active perimeter defenders that can bring some offense in wall , oladipo , and Gordon . With a fast C like wood , and forwards like house and Tate and the option to go with guys like PJ and cousins ... that’s an interesting team . I’d argue we had been playing a nice style before Wood went out . if your mvp player leaves , if your new acquisition at C is out , if wall/Dipo/Gordon all need games off (are guys that you want to manage) it’s going to be hard to string together consistency . furthermore , from an organizational standpoint you don’t want to tank so early and blatantly . I think it devalues guys like wall , Gordon , PJ , and Dipo . The first two have overall built up some good games this season . Pj has been 50/50 and Dipo 20/80 bad . it’s just tough to tell what we are trying to do . The wood injury hurts . Almost no matter what happens from here on out (unless we somehow make a Deep run ) Silas is getting an INC for his first year as a coach . (If we make a deep run he gets an A)
I think Silas has been told to be competitive, but rest the guys and let management flip the roster a bit. DD
tbh there is no lineup's that really will work rn, and he's def probably forced to showcase certain players to build up thier value. You go small. you get killed on the boards. You play Boogie, You have no inside scoring and a guy with poor lateral quickness on defense.
Tired of Houstonians always making excuses. Sure....he’s being forced to showcase players. Give me a f$&@“ break. If you don’t like what you see in the mirror, it’s because you’re ugly....not because the mirror is broke. Nobody is forcing this lousy coach to play Tucker and House for 30+ minutes a game...NOBODY!!!!!!!!!
Ok let’s say you’re right....Silas is a puppet for management and is being forced to play these absolutely horrid players. Is that the type of coach you respect??? Keep in mind the more these guys play the lower their trade value becomes.
If he was brought in to be a puppet, I would direct that smoke to the ones actually pulling the strings.
He could get a pass but this season still should count in the evaluations later. Not much is free in the world either. A secure working place is all that he got.
No, the Houston Rockets suck. No coach can save this train wreck. This team as currently constructed is not good. Bright spot is Wood, that’s it - and we may have to deal with his fragility his entire career). Hoping we clean house (literally because he sucks) and figuratively.
People want to b**** about coaching when the roster is full of reclamation projects and role players with the only all-star level talent being out with an ankle injury. Yea this is all 100% on Silas. Much like how it would have been all 100% on JVG if he were on the sidelines.
Notice that Kerr become champoonship coach in his first year.... I still beleive in Stepehn tho... big probability this is only a small hiccup and hell right the ship... i wont bother looking at standings now but i bet you any money with a nice winning streak we got ourselves hc for po very fast
its a small sample size coach...have some patience have some trust...never underestimate heart of a champion
They are learning how to walk. I am not going to talk about running and going full speed yet. Baby steps. Talking championships is far fetched for now.
Yes I'm pissed at some of the moves, especially playing House or Tucker when obviously they drag the team down..but I am willing to give him a chance like I did with all other coaches and players... Its strange how many coaches continue to keep playing players that are so bad, its like amnesia. Bro everyone sees it, what are you missing?
