If healthy, this team is a fun regular season team, but that's about it. They are not built to win anything substantial. They aren't really even built anyways. This is what is currently on a roster during the process of a GM moving two 40 Mil superstars. You move EIGHTY MILLION DOLLARS in two players, and you are going to have some players like Oladipo, and John Wall who you didn't plan on acquiring but you gotta take them on in the process for the time being. So the Rockets would be foolish in an effort to immediately say "WE GOT SOMETHING" and resign Oladipo. He's here as an outcome of the Harden trade to make salaries match. That's about it. He's got a couple more weeks to show something but I think regardless if there's some decent picks Stone can get for him at the deadline, or younger prospects, he'll take that deal in a heartbeat... as he should.
Dipo won't be resigned. SnT at most. Period. Just a piece to get rid of one of those 40M contracts you mentioned.
Dipo is the type of player to get waived and a bottom tier team might give him a 10 day contract. That's how he's playing. I can't stand that dude's smirk.
Agreed Could be marked as sticky post. But no, all we see are posts "trade this, trade that and we will contend", like the 80M aftermath never existed lol.
I bet you any money you thought the same about last years miami team... and they proved you wrong Spoiler TAKE THAT FOR DATA
Especially with the self proclaimed franchise player still playing. As well as Silas' preferred All Star in Dipo.
Dipo trade was mistake. Could of had better player in Ben Simmons. Same Ben Simmons who is highest rated defender this season and is top DPOY candidate. Would have been perfect on a team that Silas says is defense first. The same Ben Simmons who is 6'10. Would have been helpful on a team that lacks size. Can play backup 5 and improve team rebound as well. The same Ben Simmons, who at worst, would be the secondary playmaker. Very helpful on a team that struggles with assists and is turnover prone. Heck, I bet he can throw a job better than either Wall or Dipo too.
If somehow victor stay here and the rockets just keep the team they have. Victor will be gone probably elsewhere in free agency. There will be teams needing scoring and defense, and will probably overpay for him. Why would the rockets offer him 4 years at 125. Just seems way too much. It hinders any real movement down the road, and he is not really what you add to a rebuilding team. Who knows what the team will do tbh.
You are right but at 30M+ 15% trade kicker he would have been extremely overpaid. For better or worse defense in NBA is extremely ubder rated by the market, guys like Tucker who are good defensively but bring little else to the table struggle to make 8M a year. In that kind of market paying 35M for a defense only player is a mistake imo, and while Simmons is a great defensive player he isnt Prime Kawhi defense good, he isnt shutting down Lebron or KD 1on1 for the entire game.
It was a try before you buy scenario which I am ok with. Since he sucks Rox will prob flip him for an asset, worst case just a couple of 2nd rounders best case for a struggling prospect like Herro or a relative unknown talent like Mo Bamba. Regardless it just adds to the 4 picks and 4 swap hauls Rox got for Harden.
Ben Simmons is younger and better than Victor Oladipo. Full stop. And he will be cheaper next season too. Positionless bigs are the new weapons of mass destruction in NBA.
