And that's why if you put him on the blocks, you'd get significant offers from 29 other teams. Very well expressed. When the upper body strength catches up with the tree trunks, look out!
If Yao follows Axl's career path, he'll disappear after his third season and never be heard from again.
There should be a third choice in this poll because no one in the world at this point can say wheteher or not Yao is a franchise player because no one in the world has the first clue what Yao is going to be when the slope of his improvement curve begins to flatten out. Right now he is just a player with a lot of potential.
Just a Player that has scored over 40points in a game, pulled down 18rebounds in a Game and blocked 7 shots in a Game.
Franchise players need at least 3 years to prove themselves. Yao has only played for 2 years. One more season and I think I could make a decision if he is a franchise player. Steve Francis has had 5 years and has shown he isnt franchise player.
Oh come on, there was no questioning KG or TD or Shaq, it was quite obvious that those guys were franchise players from the get go.
True on TD and Shaq. Not at all true in the case of Garnett who didn't make the all star team until his third season if I'm not mistaken. He was definitely no where's near all star caliber his rookie season. TD and Shaq are really not players Yao should be compared to. TD and Shaq had a couple years of college ball under their belt when they came to the NBA and knew the American game well. That is not the case for foreign born and schooled players who rarely are big hits before their third season in the NBA.
OK, he's a good player with a lot of potential, but the question on the table is whether or not he is a "franchise" player that the Rockets will want to eventually invest a large percentage of their money under the cap into. Yao has not shown enough consistency yet to answer that question with a definitive yes. He has only shown occasional signs of greatness that give hope that he will become a franchise type player. His shortcomings have been well documented on this board so I will not repeat them. I will say that I think Yao is the ONLY Houston player at this point that I would even consider investing franchise type money in.
Was Hakeem a franchise player after his 2nd year? No. Does this thread have any merit whatsoever? Hell no.
It takes alot longer for foreign-norn players to develop into superstar - franchise players. Examples are Dirk and Peja. They were not very good their 1st couple of years but in a few years became very good - almost great. Just give Yao a year or two and if he still plays the same way (17 and 9) then we can take the franchise label off of him.
10.4 PPG 6.3 RPG 1.8 APG are those the numbers of a franchise player right from the start? Remember how bad the T-wolves use to be when they first had Garnett? I guess you'd trade that low-stat 'loser' because he didn't come straight out of the gate with his 24/14 huh?
No, it doesn't. Judging by the rating it's received so far, quite a few people agree with me. I can't believe people are so eager to give up on Yao after 2 frickin' years.
Whatever amed post is not worth reading any more. I only clicked on the thread to see poll results. It seems 1/3 of fans here are taking the loss to Lakers too hard.
So what's the point? Different players grow in the NBA at different pace. For every Shaq and Duncan, there's a Kobe and Dirk. Actually, there A LOT MORE players who dominate only after many years. Just because some players dominate the NBA from the start, doesn't mean that you should hold every player to the same standard. Funny how there isn't a third, and the correct choice to this poll. Which is "Don't Know". because no one really knows how he'll eventually turn out.
IN THE LAST PLAYOFF GAME, THE GUY WAS UNDER THE BASKET. HE WOULD NOT DUNK. HE WENT OFF THE BACKBOARD AND MISSED. HE WAS LUCK HE WAS FOULED. THAT TELLS ME RIGHT THERE YAO MING DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY IN THE NBA.
