I assume Kubes is late because Schaub is holding onto his leg and he's slowly dragging him to the press conference.
VERY clear listening/watching the press conference that Rick Smith is doing all he can to stay on board. Bob did most of the talking, but was flanked by Cal and Rick. Most of the chatter seemed to suggest that the talent is in place, but has been a coaching issue that led to the losing streak. Will be very interesting to see what established NFL head coach (not assistant, not college) wants the job with an entrenched no-name GM establishing himself as a de facto President of Football Operations. Doesn't sound as if Wade Phillips has an inside track. Did sound like there was interest in Lovie "no offense" Smith.
They likely want an impressionable head coach with HC experience... somebody who will do whatever the front office wants. Lovie Smith fits that bill. And this franchise will be stuck in mediocrity for the near future with that sort of approach.

Don't be freaked - in the presser, McNair was asked if Phillips is a leading candidate, and McNair's reply was that they would interview him along with the others. You don't need to interview Wade Phillips at this juncture if you are McNair. You don't focus on outside candidates if you like what you have in Phillips. It's a courtesy interview, that's it.
FYI I was on the “the McNair’s are completely incompetent and only prioritize nepotism so long as it adheres to their far right ideology” bandwagon since at least 2013.
