CNNSI reports that the Hawks are ready to deal Johnson if they can score a quality veteran. Think the Rockets have what it takes to get Johnson? I still think he can be a future stud and is better than what we can get at 18 and beyond. He still has raw talent and has an advantage over rookies because at least he has a year in on NBA ball. ------------------ Louisville Rockets my ass
I'm sorry to hear about your ass OldManBernie. Those mean Louisville people. Anywho... wasn't there some rumor that Rudy was really interested in this guy last year and tried to move up to get him? Or was that really just some unfounded rumor? I haven't seen him play, but I don't recall him doing very well. His shooting was poor and that was one of his plusses coming out of college. But of course, that's just after 1 season. ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...
I had the impression the Rocks were very interested last year but couldn't trade up. Let's say the Rockets again can't trade up - would 13 & 18 be enough? (Please no one say a word about Cato uless you're willing to take Allan Henderson's contract). IMHO, DerMarr had a period of adjustment from CUSA freshmen to the NBA. He still has an upside and may be the odd man out if the Hawks take Griffin or Battier. ------------------ Raef to Rocks in'01-'02! [This message has been edited by GATER (edited June 26, 2001).]
Heck yes, I would take Dermarr off their hands. A poor seasons was almost to be expected from a guy going from 1 year of college to the pros. He's still only 21 years old, and is a 6'9" athletic 2 guard. Does Walt count as a "quality veteran"? ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
Why would DerMarr (a 2 guard) be out if the Hawks took Battier or Griffin (both 3s)? It worries me if they are giving up on him this soon. ------------------ "How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak. I think Jeferson would contribute more w/ his defense. We don't need projects, we need to build a team for the next 3 years. ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
Colby, Well it helps to build around good talent. Now I like Jefferson a lot too, but I cannot see him guarding the bigger SFs in the league. Also, he lacks the perimeter shot, something Johnson was pretty strong in back with Cincinnati. I honestly think Johnson has a higher upside than anyone we can get at 18 and 23. ------------------ Louisville Rockets my ass
Colby: Projects with potential are exactly what this team need. Let's put this in bold: The Rockets will not be a contender until Francis and Mobley mature . We've got a ways to go until that happens. Why tab Richard Jefferson for a little immediate help when you can nab someone like Johnson who could be a star? Johnson's got the talent to be a versatile threat, and can create mismatches. If we could acquire him, I'd be very happy. ------------------ Newbiehad... coming to a bbs near you, October 31st.
Johnson is more of a gaurd at 6'9. I don't see him fitting in with the Rockets. He plays mostly a perimeter game where we have cat at that spot. I like his talent- just don't see him as a 3. Jefferson's defense and strength DO allow him to play the bigger SF's despite his 6'7 frame. At the 3, we need someone who can play D and give us some intangibles. Being able to get his own shot and create would steer me in the direction of Joe Johnson - who will be our 1st pick in this draft. ------------------
