No I don’t agree with this post but I do think that adding a star such as Beal will take this team over the top. Maybe even retain Vic and slide him to the 3. Also if the rockets opt to add Allen or a defensive big this team can be like the pistons team that beat the lakers with no defined superstar but a collection of good players and great defense. I can envision such a team and believe Stone and management sees this as well.

Is anyone a veteran defensive specialist on this team other than Tucker? Nope. Better to keep him. He's the living architect for what we're building this year. Unless it's a high FRP.. no thanks. I'd prefer his DNA live on here. He literally shapes players like Tate. Tate isn't his replacement, he's PJ's student.

To keep up appearances obviously. It's an open secret that we are trying to trade him.

If that's the case, and I'm not opposed to it, then he should come off the bench, like I said bench or trade. The current starting lineup doesn't fit and is the cause of all the slow starts.

I think we'll end up trading PJ closer to the deadline. We probably wont end up getting anyone back, and my guess is that our FO wants a future unprotected/minimally protected first for him - we already have enough picks for the coming draft and given that we'll be trading him to a good team, it doesn't make sense to get back a late first rounder which teams will gladly give up by that point. Taking a gamble on a good team being not so good in a season or two seems like the better return.

I am worried that P.J Tucker leaves the Rockets defense suffers and be like when Trevor Ariza left and haven't recovered in 2 years after, until now.

Yeah you guys definitely don't watch or pay attention to games. All you do is monitor box scores and create hot takes based off that. PJ's role is too LEAD the younger guys probably because he knows his time here is numbered. He's teaching guys like Tate how to work hard & be professional even in a situation that doesn't benefit him with the contract extension (which he deserves).

But PJ is still a fantastic defender & prototypical 3&D player. Teams like Brooklyn or the LAC will jump quick to get him. So basically some of you are casuals that don't follow any of the intangibles that guys like PJ specialize in smh

My guess is PJ won’t last the full season here. I’m OK with him playing close to starter minutes if it means we will get something better in return when he’s traded.

    I agree with the OP.

Like he said all the fancy metrics, as evil and stupid as some may find them, all say negative defender.

Then if you want to look at actual results of what’s happening to our team while he is on the floor...

Our team defensive rating is at its WORST with Tucker on the floor.

Teams defensive rating overall : 106.9
Defensive rating with Tucker on floor : 112.8

And the only 3 regulars we are currently playing with a NEGATIVE net rating are:

    Tucker : -5.7
    Cousins : -2.8
    Wall : -1.3

    Meanwhile

    Nwaba : +8.6
    House : +8.3
    Gordon : +6.3
    Brown : +6.2
    Tate : +4.3
    Oladipo : +4.1
    Wood : +2.0

And yes Tucker is killing Woods net rating. The duo of Wood and Tucker have played the most minutes together of any duo on our team by nearly +100 minutes.

For context -5.7 is one of the worst ratings in the entire league like I said.

PJ might not be what we need offensively but he is what we need defensively. PJ is the motor on this team and he communicates well with his teammates. Ever since the Harden trade the defense is rated #2 in the NBA. Listen to Wall's postgame comments they want PJ on this team.

Looking at players playing at least 20 minutes per game Tucker is 319th out of 433 in net rating. Not good.

But still better than Westbrook or Melo....lol

Have you actually thought about why 1+1 is equal to 2 and not 3?

If you want to trade a guy, as long as he is healthy, what kind of GM will want to sit the guy instead of playing him?
