No wonder this movie seemed to be in the can for so long. I'll still watch it. What a shame though.

This means I'll love it when I catch it on video. I did the same with Duplex. It got horrendous reviews so I stayed at home. Picked it up at the video store earlier this week and thought it was hilarious.

Well, it's pretty obvious that this movie wasn't meant to be enjoyed on anything more than its comedic merits...so going by the reviews, they must have put EVERY funny joke from the movie in the previews, because from what I saw of the trailers it looked pretty hilarious.

It looks like a horrible movie.

I'd say Stiller is extremely overrated as an "actor". With the exception of zoolander and a small role in happy gilmore, he's brought very little to the movies he's been in.

Jack Black is hit or miss.

So I don't find it surprising.

i liked "along came polly" and "starsky and hutch" so i disagree with you.

although i do agree, even when i saw the trailer i was like "wow... very risky."

    one of the reviews said

"no wonder dreamworks delayed the release for over a year, waiting for the perfect time -- there is no such time."

    haha

I didn't laugh once during the preview and almost all of Ben Stiller's movies are unfunny. He had stupendously bad choice in scripts.

No love for Meet The Parents?

I thought he was great in Friends And Neighbors.

I too can't stand Ben Stiller as an actor, but, I am going to give this movie a chance.

I think most of the reviews aren't taking inot account that it is a really witty BLACK BLACK comedy. I've read the reviews; it has always seemed that BLACK comedies aren't well represented.

I like this guy's review much better. He gave it a B. The onl fresh rating this movie got.

    Eugene Novikov's Review

    Trust me.

    Haven't seen Friends and Neighbors.

I thought Meet the Parents was a good movie, but Stiller didn't bring much to his role. Coulda plugged in a lot of other actors and it would have still been funny.

Forgot to add that I liked him in Mystery Men as well.

Man, it seems like we have such different tastes in movies, not that there's anything wrong with that. Don't plan to see polly, looks blah. But I happened to see starsky reluctantly, and it was by far the worst movie I've seen so far this year, and wouldn't be surprised if it will be the worst movie I've seen for the year.

That's pretty much what they do with most crap comedies. It's usually pretty easy to spot even in the previews.

Stiller seems very dry in a lot of his roles, but then again it could just be the characters he plays. Owen Wilson always seems to play the more likeable guy.

Stiller basically plays the same character in every film - the dark, awkward goofy guy. I like him because I like that character, but it is a trap a lot of comedic actors fall into because, so often, comedians just aren't good actors - see Adam Sandler, David Spade, Eddie Murphy, etc.

The good actors end up eventually taking on good roles that are not comedic - Will Smith, Bill Murray, Jim Carrey, etc.

I forgot about that one, it should have been on my cult movie list.

    No love for Zoolander?

I must admit I wasn't a Stiller fan until I saw that movie.

    Jeff,

You forgot to mention that Stiller usually plays a Jewish guy that falls in love with a non-Jewish woman.. something he did in real life.

I'm a huge fan of everything Stiller, his show, Reality Bites, Zoolander, etc, but this movie looks awful. What a crappy premise.
