Watson no longer fits the culture...trade him for a married Christian with values

Well get ready for just about every player in a Texans uniform to be wrong about something because Watson represents a lot of them not to mention other players in this league.

No way he sits out the entire year. He will report sometime after camp.

I agree, Watson was obviously wrong when he signed the extension thinking the situation here was tenable. FWIW at the time I was surprised he didn't go with a "I want to test FA" message.

2021? He signed a four year extension, unless he plans to give back that 22 mil signing bonus and sit out until he's 30 he might as well suit up. And this ain't the nba, if he shows up outta shape and intentionally plays like dog **** he could end up in the hospital.

He does have values. He values smart team ownership and leadership.

This is why the Texans will make their stand with Watson. They will call his bluff. The NFL doesn't want this to happen.

Not if he doesn’t want to be here. Like I’ve said earlier, you can’t half ass it in a sport a dangerous as football.

Kind of like how the NFL made a stand when Eli Manning and John Elway did it - using even less leverage than Watson has in eras with much less player power.

So, three months until the draft. I think it’s going to be a game of chicken between Watson and the Texans. A trade has to happen before the draft if it’s going to happen I believe. Right now I think both sides are determined to hold their ground. It will probably come down to just how good of an offer the Texans actually get for Watson. No reason for the Texans to agree to weak compensation for Watson. The Texans have their picks next season. They can just let Watson sit out and tank the hell out of the season. They can always trade him next year or the year after.

Three months is a longtime. Things can happen. But, I don’t see much happening until the week of the draft.

Too bad Bill OBrien isn’t an NFL GM for some team. We could probably get 6 straight #1 picks for Watson.

They did it as Rookies, before they signed contracts......not with SIGNED 2nd contracts with 5 years left on them. HUGE difference.

Elway had Baseball as an option, too.

Even if Watson sit out his years don’t start up so he would just come with the same extension and if he retires and come back he will still be under contract so they can call his bluff honestly

Still not sure how Watson has “more” leverage. He’s signed. He loses money if he doesn’t play (unlike other sports). He can retire and be forced to payback most of his signing bonus (yet he’s still under team control whenever he decides to come back). He can’t become a free agent. Likewise the Texans can’t just draft somebody else and are tied to his contract.

What Watson is doing as a franchise NFL QB who just sign an extension is unprecedented... thus sets a pretty significant precedent for these types of moves going forward.

The Deshaun Watson era is over in Houston. He doesn't want to be here, so we should ship him off before the draft for a boatload of picks and get this rebuild started now. He's deleted all references to the team from his social media accounts. No need to drag this out any longer than need be
