another chump is in need of assistance. i'm trying to download the recent virus definitions for norton. unfortunately, i keep getting the message that it can't retreive the updates b/c there is no internet connection. i'm surfing the net just fine. also, when i try to go the the symantec.com site i can't get that to open either in my firefox or IE. it keeps telling me the connection was refused. anyone got any idea what's wrong?

by the way, it's subscription service has NOT expired. i'm running on XP.

Maybe you have symantec.com blocked in your browser.

do you run a firewall or zone alarm? you may need to give live update permissions...

i hope you don't have a virus that is not allowing you to update your definitions. Don't some virii do that??

Have you tried going to Norton's website and downloading the latest virus definition file directly? It's pretty simple to do, and they give you instructions on how to do it. I believe the last time I had to do that it was an automatic self-running program that just updated your virus definitions.

Oops sorry I didn't read that you had trouble going to the symantech site. Do you have a personal or business/corporate license for Norton out of curiosity?

That's really strange if you can't even get to their site...is that the only site you can't get to? If you are only having trouble connecting to the live update, I would say it could be a proxy setting or something...but not being able to get their at all is pretty damn strange.

I'm assuming your on XP....have you tried logging into the box with a different user? Maybe there is something in your specific profile that is preventing you from getting there.
