    ALBANY — New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday released a searing report that found the state Department of Health underreported nursing home deaths related to the coronavirus by as much as 50 percent.

    The 76-page report released Thursday morning follows a months-long investigation by the attorney general's office's into allegations of patient neglect and other conduct that jeopardized the health and safety of residents and employees, including information that nursing homes failed to properly isolate residents who tested positive for COVID-19 and demanded sick employees continue to work or face retaliation or termination.

    When James won a contested Democratic primary for attorney general in 2018, she did so with Cuomo's political support, and opponents at the time raised questions about whether she would operate independently of the governor. During James' first two years in office, she worked with the governor closely on a number of matters and her office's attention was trained on the actions of Republican President Donald J. Trump.

    But Trump left office eight days ago, and James' report on Thursday represents a break from Cuomo on the high-profile issue of nursing homes, which has plagued a governor that otherwise has gotten national acclaim for his handling of the pandemic.

    Cuomo's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

    Likely underreporting. Our systems are over-optimized with cost-cutting and waste shedding as its hallmarks for fat bonuses.

    That just means when the **** hits the fan, all hands on deck are needed to clean it up.

    Until someone calls in sick or starts not giving a **** and blatantly lie (etc...) without anyone to back them up or hold them accountable.

    CNN slobering Cuomo's member was pretty disgusting. I remember multiple instances where his own brother interviewed him with softballs and brotherly banter.

    Anyone who purposely underreported deaths, or downplayed the seriousness of the virus should be ashamed of themselves. They should be held accountable if laws were broken.

    Horrible news but am glad to see NY's AG investigating this even if it looks very bad for the governor of her own party.

    I had almost forgotten how AG's were supposed to behave.

    His face is truly horrifying if you stare at it. It is like a constant beach wave from one ear to the other.

    On a side note the media needs to stop proclaiming a NY politician is a deity after every national emergency. We saw it with Rudolfo Giuliani after 9/11 and now with Andrea Cuomo.

    We all have seen what happened with Giuliani. No he wasn’t found dead on Valentine’s Day with his mistress on vacation like Scalia... but he is insane.

    This Cuomo character isn’t all their either. Talking tough to Donald Trump during the Pandemic is easy.

    I've learned that theres always a rationalization - they over reported numbers elsewhere to scare us but under reported in NY!
