People need to stop this narrative. The Texans did *not* waste JJ Watt's prime. He just completed his 10th season; he's been to the playoffs 6 times. That's more than Donald*, Mack and Ramsey combined. He went four of his first six years. Watson's played three full seasons and been to playoffs twice. He's 1-2 including a dreadful performance in '18 (and was part of a team that blew a 24-point 2Q lead). Matthew Stafford's prime was wasted. Watson has had his shot here. (* Donald has been to a Super Bowl)
The Texans got to the playoffs because Watt played the most dominant football we've ever seen since Lawrence Taylor, with help from a weak division. And the best QB we could pair with him was noodle armed matt schaub.
The Texans were never a serious contender for a Super Bowl. Dunno what "had his shot here" means but if he did just trade him then. We got Easterby. Let's get it!
There was a window of time in late 2011 until early 2013 when the Texans floated in top 5 SB odds. Granted that was silly in retrospect but hey....
Correct and were this a real football operation instead of the Easterby chapter of the Fellowship Of Christian Athletes, the argument could be made that Watson still had more shots to take. But after watching this absolute clown show on the hiring of a head coach, there's no way that can even be a remote possibility now. The entire Texans organization can be best described by one of my favorite albums:
If you're in the playoffs, you're a contender. Period. I understand all teams are not created equal. I also just watched the TampafreakingBay Buccaneers beat the Packers in Green Bay, something that happens *every* year in the playoffs. I can tick off countless "weren't contenders" that became contenders once the playoffs started (Tennessee last year? The Eagles with their back-up QB?) The Texans were 8 quarters away from the Super Bowl in '11, '12, '16 and '19. A bounce here, a break there.... the best teams don't always prevail as the playoffs can turn of the slimmest of margins. Wasting a prime is *never* or infrequently making the playoffs.
I would argue we did waste his prime. Getting to the playoffs mean jack sht, our team was never going anywhere. We never even made it to afc championship once. U are a very big homer my friend, just accept the fact that the way things is heading we might be the new lions/browns. One of the most dominant defensive player and he never even got to the semi finals.
I do believe that team might have made the SB if they didn't blow those last two games vs. the Vikings or Colts.
I wouldn't say he deserves it, but I understand why he'd want it. Given how much he raved about loving Bill O'Brien, I'm not sure his input would be valuable. That said, I'm pretty sure they have him the opportunity to give his input, they just didn't ultimately go with it and that's what started his tantrum. He wanted more than just input, he wanted to be the guy who made the decisions.
you also forgot Clowney, Hopkins, and Harden traded. all GMs and coaches fired. Cole and Springer left in free agency. Verlander out with Tommy John. man! one Avalanche after the other. Dallas sports teams and fans must be laughing at us. Yes they haven’t won much lately either but at least they all have well run franchises without drama.
So the General John McClain said Leslie Frazier is going to be the next head coach and there is no way they are trading Watson, and yet here we are. That cartoon general from those insurance commercials has more insight on the Texans than McClain ever will.
I tried to tell Nick this trade demand was coming this is Harden part 2 we were hearing how the Texans don’t have to trade him, they have leverage, maybe they can convince him to rethink things, etc now it’s clear that his mind has been made up, and he will be outta here, it’s only a matter of time
Something odd about the Schefter thing is this isn't even new news...like he requested the trade WEEKS ago so why were they selling it as if he did so today? They are literally reporting a story that is weeks old and acting like this happened today? Schefter today on NFL Live: Texans need to just move on from him ASAP. Why? Again, if the package is amazing, then yeah, but the Texans don't have to be in a rush to do this for any reason.
