Where did I say they should get rid of him? ... All I said is that they shouldn't build around him.

The problem is that if you build around him all season long ... When the playoffs come and he has nothing left in the team, that leaves you as a team with nothing left. If you use him as a complementary player, then you still have an offense and team strategy to use during the playoffs that you have practiced all season long.

I agree with this as well, but since those are not the rules for the Olympics, each player has to make that decision and I can't fault any player for choosing one or the other.

My problem is that the Rockets are putting all of their eggs in Yao Ming's basket knowing damn well that he might never be around physically and mentally come playoff time.

I mean . . . What would we say if an Athlete told the US to SCR** YOU!!!1

We'd villify them. In fact we have when athletes showed displeasure at playing in the Olympics or Pam An Games

man . . .people are such fricking hypocrits

Umm thats pretty much what KG is doing, and Shaq probably will do, and plenty of other athletes have told the USOC.

I havn't heard them be villified for it yet, but maybe I am wrong.

That said .. i still think Yao should represent China in the Olympics.

Shaq is in better condition? I don't think so. Shaq sat out 20+ games this season, and when he played, he just camped in the paint resting. Had Shaq played 82 games, setting picks like Yao, running help D like Yao, he would have been in hospital this week.

Good point. :D I really don't see why Yao has to do all the pick setting.

Can't agree more. And Shaq looked tired at times, too. Even Phil Jackson admitted that.

Yao didn't shoot the ball well. Even so the Lakers sent constant double teams to contain him, that's called respect, what double teams does Francis command? Nada, zero, zilch. This is not about Yao vs. Francis, but if anyone is saying that Yao should not be built around, the same must be said towards Steve.

Even if that's the case the GMs in 28 other teams would still pick up the phone when the Rockets put Yao on the block.

Right. Writing in caps does make you sound more intelligent.

Hey, that's a little personal. Don't you think? I don't think Yao is selfish. I just hope he gets his priorities straight as he grows into a franchise player. I am also worried about his physical conditions w.r.t. a deep palyoff run. I would blame the people around him at this moment if I want to blame anybody for his subpar performance in the playoffs.

What makes you think YAO wants to play in the NBA anymore?

Dude, the guy had the ball under the basket, and he refused to dunk. He went off the backboard and missed. He was lucky he got fouled.

That's a sign right there that Yao doesn't wants to play in the NBA.

Not to be mean jxu777. I think you should change the title to 'what have you done for me lately? Yao!' ;)

    You see what I see.

I didn't see Yao is tired but I saw him running all over the half court to do picks for everybody. That maybe called coaching.

This is not a conflict between China or US, just a balance in his duties. Please don't make a basketball player to carry the whole national pride or something alike everyday. I don't think Rockets or Yao himself would object for Olympic Games or World Cup or World Championships. Personally, and I would dare to say including Yao himself, don't see the necessarty for him to attend all the meaningless warmup games, or some low key qualification games, or Asian games. There are enough talent in the Chinese national team to get the job done. On the end, Yao's development benefits not only himself, Rockets, but also Chinese basketball. Look at the big picture, a worn-out underachieved Yao, with his height and rare talent, is really really a heartbroken loss to basketball, to CHINA. Like you said, he's a Chinese. For me, a Chinese, as long as he doesn't satisfy other countries to do harm to China, no matter his personal interest or decision is, he does not choose others over his blood. Please don't over-policalize everything. This is 23-year-old kid, who loves play basketball, as long as he's not joining US national team, I don't see him could ever harm China in any ways.

Who's "WE"? You couldn't even follow a simple rule not to use all caps, and you try to convince people here with your point? Of course, if you have a point.
