I have a different comment. If you have the chance to listen to This American Life, they had a show where they interviewed people who were polled and we got to listen to them ask the poll questions. Some of the pollsters really steered people in that the answers or questions did not give people the choices they wanted. (Much like our election . ) For instance they asked about the Democratic primary in one state, and they skewed it really badly towards Dean because, they didn't give people the choice of not voting in the Democratic primary. Zogby was really bad about not letting people say no opinion - the pollsters had to ask repeatedly for a commitment to one side or another.
From "The Jesus Factor" we learn the Bushies have the 25% Christian fundy voting block locked up with a few homilies. They won't care about what the other policies do as long as he *says* the right thing.
