I will take this opportunity to, again, tell my favorite baseball story. At some point during the 1909 World Series, Ty Cobb finds himself on first. He yells at Wagner, "Hey, Krauthead! First pitch, I'm comin' and I ain't slidin'!" Wagner yells back, "Well, come on then, I'll be waitin'!" Sure enough, next pitch, Cobb takes off for second and lowers his shoulder. Wagner, making no effort to field the throw, steps aside and punches Cobb dead in the face. And Detroit's entire bench stood up and cheered. I don't know if that story is true or not, but it should be.
Pretty whiny letter complaining about the voters given the bolded part: "I wanted to reiterate this final point. I will not participate in the final year of voting. I am requesting to be removed from the ballot. I’ll defer to the veterans committee and men whose opinions actually matter and who are in a position to actually judge a player. I don’t think I’m a hall of famer as I’ve often stated but if former players think I am then I’ll accept that with honor."
Schilling could have said nothing and been respectable, but that would not be Schilling. So he runs his mouth again, and again, and again.
There is a slight part of me that feels bad for Schilling - but the key word is slight. Yes, the guy played a major role in the Red Sox winning their first World Series since 1918 when he pitched with a torn muscle in the 2004 ALCS. But his career stats are marginal at best for a HOFer (although there are other guys that are in there that had worst career stats) but he definitely killed any chances he had of making it by being such a giant douchebag in retirement. I despise Clemens and I despise Bonds and feel that the PED guys should never get in. It's ironic because, I know, I know, my username is "Manny Ramirez" and he was a PED user too. Of course, when I signed up for this site, I had no idea (naive person that I am) that Manny would become a PED user. So, yes I don't want him in the HOF either. So I was pretty happy that no one got in. The sad thing is that Schilling will probably get in about 20 years due to the Veterans Committee, mainly because they will have run out of decent candidates.
Ohtani pitching and hitting for the Angels tonight...first pitch he sees at the plate he crushes 450 feet. The boom sound off the bat was impressive.
From ESPN: Ohtani's 100.6 mph pitch to Adam Eaton, which helped set up his first strikeout, was the fastest-thrown pitch by any starting pitcher this season. And his home run, which carried an exit velocity of 115.2 mph, was the hardest-hit home run of the season by any player. Both of these in the 1st inning.
Yep, looked a whole lot worse that it was, apparently he's ok. p.s. and don't tell the mods, I'm giving up on this thread and will be using the "What to expect in 2021" thread in the Stros Forum for general mlb stuff.
Anyone else feel like the "error" in the Wade Miley no-hitter was a very favorable scorers ruling? Kind of feel that half the time, that is scored as an infield hit. https://www.mlb.com/unified-player/embed/wade-miley-in-play-no-out-to-amed-rosario-8nkqcu
I really just can’t stand all the players on the ground whining and holding their shins. I use to skateboard I know all about racking your shins
