Because the Jets really do need more than just Watson... so the chances of them giving over the requisite pick haul is much less vs. a team slightly more complete/competitive.

He's not slandering anyone. But he's effectively recruiting Deshaun Watson to other teams.

    And

8 pictures of Deshaun Watson, who is under contract with the Texans, in other jerseys, tweeted by perhaps the NFL's biggest, most prominent mouthpiece.

Forget the Jets and Dolphins. You try for the Jags #1 pick and 3-4 years of rookie salary Trevor Lawrence, hell perhaps knock on Dabo’s door in the process. Do that, and you can maybe, barely shine this turd of a situation. And no, I wouldn’t care about trading Watson within the division if such an opportunity presented itself.

Schefter should at least get a fruit basket or something nice from Watson's agent.

That is literally the only package I accept. Trevor Lawrence is the only thing amongst prospects I would be somewhat content with if we are trading Watson.

I'm still ademently against it and am still clinging on to hope Watson stays.

Talk about all or nothing. Complete disaster if it backfires because then you get to play the guy twice a year for the next decade. Having said that, I'd probably be pretty tempted.

Schefter's kneepads are getting worn out with all this servicing of Watson's agent... and no doubt he'll be the one to scoop the trade, if and when it happens.

Unless we think seeing these pictures is going to influence whether teams trade for Watson, I'm not sure how this impacts anything? And if it does have that kind of influence, everyone in the NFL needs to be fired for incompetence.

Not sure I follow that line of thinking. You are right the Jets would need more, but the mystique of adding a generational QB to their team doesn't speak to a lower trade offer IMO.

You would send Watson to the Jets and HOPE (which they probably would) they would still suck and maximize the return vs trading to a team that would go into contender mode with Watson and those picks then show up at the later stages of each round.

I think any team that is interested in Watson knows it will take a lot to secure him in a trade and there wont be much flux in what the return will be.

How much can the Jets truly afford to add somebody of Watson's worth... and expect to be competitive in an appropriate time-frame?

There's a reason the NFL doesn't go to a lottery system.... one player cannot make the difference, and bad teams do need the early pick in every round to have the best chance of rebuilding.

That being said, I'm not an expert on what pieces the Jets have in place already. Are they already set at the tackle positions? Do they have the requisite early round picks that most defensive specialist lust after to build a cohesive defensive unit? Do they have skill position talent?

Granted, the Texans also need some of that (not all of that) and won't have an early round pick till next year... but its still only one more year vs. the multiple extra years I would expect to have in return for trading somebody of Watson's caliber.

That's why I was saying teams that are slightly more competitive, or those who've been picking early for awhile, may be in better shape to offer up more picks for more years.

    True story

I was working at the men’s club when I was a 17 years old and Magic Johnson and Warren Moon came in together and sat in front of the stage. Everyone ran out from the kitchen to take pictures and meet Magic Johnson while Warren moon sat they’re taking it all in

Deshaun Watson can get his *** out of here as far as I’m concerned

I didn’t live for James Harden and I’m sure as hell not gonna live for Deshaun Watson. I live for Houston!

    https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nfl/miami-dolphins/article248795725.html

In a non-COVID-19 year, Senior Bowl is one of best weeks for gossip on the NFL calendar, perhaps second only to the NFL Scouting Combine.

Take hundreds of members of the media, player agents, coaches and scouts and add alcohol, and it stirs up quite the potent cocktail of buzz.

This year is different, of course. Attendance at the Senior Bowl is way down, and those decided to attend are showing a bit of pandemic-driven discretion after hours.

The party isn’t over, but it isn’t the same.

Yet despite that, we’re told there’s a rumor in Mobile that won’t go away:

    Deshaun Watson to the Dolphins.

Over fried oysters, over late-night beers or simply over some 7-on-7 drills, it’s the topic of conversation.

But is it idle gossip, or a sign of something more credible?

    [...]

And yet, the Dolphins are repeatedly named as the most likely Watson destination by plugged-in league sources.

“The chatter is getting louder,” said one informed league source. “Watson feels like the situation [in Houston] is unfixable, and Miami is seen as the front runner behind the scenes.”

    Not in the mix. Front-runner.

It should be said, this isn’t a universal belief. Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline reported, based on conversations that he’s had, that “speculation by league decision-makers at the Senior Bowl [has] smart money on the New York Jets.”

Some important context: The Dolphins have not said anything on the record about Watson in the three weeks since word got out that he was unhappy with the Texans and their owner, Cal McNair.

Plus, even if Houston and Miami do negotiate and agree upon a trade, it cannot be consummated until the league year begins on March 17.

Meaning? Get ready for two more months of nonstop gossip regarding the biggest story line of the offseason, not just for the Dolphins, but the entire NFL.
