Anyone got stats on this. Wanted to see if its the players. Cause we are gonna get no where with a turnover prone team.
2003/04 vs. 2002/03 TO: 1373 vs. 1276 PPG: 89.8 vs. 93.8 FGM: 2738 vs. 2840 FGA: 6195 vs. 6461 FTM: 1371 vs. 1569 3PTM: 515 vs. 439 Turnovers and 3PT-shots are the only things where JVG has "improved" this offense.
Uh, the last time I looked, the more turnovers you have the worst it is. I hope by having quotes around improved is meaning that you are being sarcastic.
I think you meant FG% instead of TOs. Just looking at these stats, it seems the Rox are going in the wrong direction. JVGs All-defense, no-offense, system might have worked in NYC, but in the West, you need to score, period.
Notice he put improved in quotation marks. Anyway, I don't think our PPG drop is due ONLY to JVG's "eastern" style of basketball like so many people criticize. I attribute a large part of that to Steve. Steve has been really tentatative to shoot even when he was open. You can see it. That isn't JVG's fault. If somebody has an open shot, you HAVE to take it or get off the court. Steve passes up too many open shots. Also, Yao obviously lost confidence too but w/ him, it's more about power and positioning. That stuff will come. But Steve knows how to gets open. Hopefully those guys will regain their confidence on their shots...asuming they are on this team next season.
Those numbers are significant changes. It's the role players who's turnovers are costly. I'd bet if we looked at those, that is where the biggest change was from last season. If each role player has 1-2 TO's, that really adds up and kills us.
Has anyone been counting the number of dribbles this year v. the number of dribbles last year? As disappointed as I have been with the Rockets this year, there are a few pluses. 1. We got Jim Jackson! 2. We got rid of Moochie! 3. Our PF no longer stands in the corner at the 3 point line. 4. With Eggie gone, we're less likely to have a Rocket kill someone in the offseason. 5. We seem to dribble a tiny bit less. Wishlist 1. Admit we made a mistake by drafting Boki and move on. 2. Hire whoever taught Jason Williams not to turn the ball over and take stupid shots. 3. Hire less Knickerbockers.
