Generally, people who aren't gifted that make it at a high level generally make the best coaches. Gideon was never physically gifted, so I think he will probably make a great coach. He knew definitely knew where to be on the field but would often mistackle or drop interceptions.
I understand the emotions, but Stoops would make a great linebacker coach for Texas. F'ing Darrell Royal was a quarterback for OU for God's sake.
So couldn’t be hired because of family ties to Oklahoma? That’s moronic. Surely they’d hire Saban if he came running... despite his ties to Alabama? Hire good coaches.
Agreed but is Stoops still a good coach? He hadn’t coached LBs in 30 years and OU fans couldn’t wait to get rid of him. Jeff Choate, Montana State HC, looks like he’ll be the guy. Won’t pretend I have even heard of him but worked with PK at Washington and made his way to FCS HC.
Yup. NCAA granted a one time waiver this year due to COVID. That’s a nice landing spot for Ingram. Thought he could have been a good one.
Sark really trying to beef up the front 7 with two grad transfers and going hard after a pair of 2021 DE’s.
And a redshirt year. And there's still the grad transfer rule. I too thought he was going to be a stud, couldn't stay healthy enough, and I wish him all the luck.
It all makes sense now. But for real what's been the issue at UT, coaching, player development, "Country Club atmosphere", failure to find a big time QB. Or is impatience and not letting a coach actually build a program. All of the above?
Recruiting is a big one. 2 big time QB recruits flipped to Ohio State and Alabama. Not the first time this has happened in recent memory. https://www.si.com/college/ohiostate/recruiting/quinn-ewers-texas-2022-quarterback-commit#:~:text=Quarterback Quinn Ewers, regarded as,14 before reopening his recruitment. https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/t...ilroe-flips-commitment-from-texas-to-alabama/
They had big time recruiting classes with Strong and Hermann what happened then? I would have flipped as well with the uncertainty now.
Player development has been the biggest issue by far IMO, even going back to the end of Mack’s years. We’re about to only have our 2nd offensive lineman drafted in the since 2008. That is absolutely pathetic.
I really don't know if Sark is the answer to our recruiting and player development woes, but I'm cautiously optimistic that he won't repeat the mistakes of Strong and Herman. Just stay away from the Tito's and Deep Eddy.
Well he has seemed to avoided their first mistake in building his staff. Time will tell but both of his predecessors made some really bad decisions on this front.
