Game five did expose our weakness to the extreme. A soft unconfident yao, a no-brain, no-shot, no-poise steve, a turnover-prone JJ, a good-and-bad, extremely inconsistent cat, and one-dimensional, sometimes non-dimensional, cato and talor. Last time I checked in, steve is the heart and franchise of this team, a solid to excellent first playoff show; Yao is doing well on both sides of the court, decent play against MDC of the league, not yet showing his dominance, but full of hopes; JJ is voted by over 40% of people here the MVP of rox in 2004; Cato is so great a defensive presence; Taylor's jump shot is simply a thing of beauty. So a game changes everything overnight? I know the last game is hurting. However, I do believe rox will be better next year. Yao will return and improve to 20/10 level; steve will be better in decision-making and outside shooting; we still need one or two extra pieces in PF or/and PG. Then we can set our goal to NO 4-5 in the west. -Littlefish
As far as I notice, the majority of people here hold a pretty positive attitude to the playoff seires and the future before game 5. As I understand, A single game changed it.
I think you're right. Rocket fans have the 'Sky is falling' outlook after Game 5. Other than the trade SF & Cat callings, today, I've also seen/heard the trade JJ, MoT, Yao, and Cato contingents...and Fire JVG.
I must admit that yes...this game did change my feelings about this team. I was very proud of the way they played this series...up until last night. They sure rolled right over for the Lakers...I mean that 3rd quarter was pitiful...they just gave up. It showed no heart or effort or belief whatsoever. I would rather them break my heart with a close loss like Game 1 or Game 4 than break it by being careless, showing no effort, and no execution of the game plan. It made the game no fun to watch, and I actually considered turning it off long before it was over. I have grown numb to this somewhat though after following this team for so long. This bunch definitely takes the fans on a roller coaster of emotions.
Is that why your moniker is Rollinrockets? Actually, I think they rolled over for the refs, not for the Lakers. They did alright in the first half when they were playing the Lakers. Anyway, my impression of the BBS was that a lot of people managed a suspension of disbelief for the playoffs and, now that that's over, are reverting to their pre-playoffs positions.
I did turn off the TV near the end of 3rd quarter. I don't know other person's expectation. For me, Rox won a game beautifully and did everything almost perfectly, and lost two close games, they fought in game 2 too. Last night, they have a ok first half and collapse. One terrible game in 5 games is acceptable to me considering how inconsistent and yong this team is right now. Maybe I ask too little. But I still have confidence.
