Seems like quite all haul for the pirates. Why not take the gamble for Yankees, who have so much money they can what the hell anytime they want. Hate that part about baseball.
Are Yankees moving on from Tanaka & Paxton? That would significantly lower their AAV. Too much of a haul for a guy who’s made 7 starts the past two seasons. Glad we didn’t give up 3-4 top 15-20 prospects. Yankees got fleeced.
On the flip side, every year they don’t win a World Series is considered a disappointment... when THAT is the standard, every single year, and the pressure is always on the owner/front office/players/manager to win it all “or else”... there really is nowhere to hide.
Phillies shooting high offers at the Astros for Lance McCullers? Spencer Howards name is a name to watch so is Marchen
And then another reporter wrote an article based entirely on that tweet.... lol https://section215.com/2021/01/24/philadelphia-phillies-lance-mccullers/

Yankees aren't even flexing their financial might this season. Granted, they are probably already at or past the luxury tax for next year if they keep all their arbitration eligible players.
Don't love the return for Perez, but I think he might have been out of options. Cots says he is but Spotrac says he has 1 left.
But is it Click, or is it Crane tightening the belt, dealing with the financial realities of Covid and post-Astrosgate? Ultimately, Click does the bidding of Crane. I have no inside information, just spitballing based on a life lived observing these things.
