China will never attack Taiwan. It would lead to a boycott from pretty much all of China's major trading partners and their economy would go to crap.

I think you need to show everyone the map again, to reaffirm Taiwan's clear, cartographically certified, independence from China.

 

It's just a routine test of readiness and response, no big deal. It probably makes for a pretty good drill for their air force.

 

As the article notes the PRC does this type of stuff frequently. The size of this incursion I'm guessing might be a message to both Taiwan and to the new Biden Administration.

 

I don't think never but an invasion of the Taiwan by the PRC is very very unlikely. The only conditions I can see it happening is if Taiwan / ROC did officially declare itself a completely separate country.

While there's a lot of sabre rattling the PRC is playing a long game primarily using cross border economic ties. The PRC has also been peddling influence in Taiwanese elections (similar to what the Russians did here) and it's clear they are hoping through soft power they can win back Taiwan.

This is the same China that thought they could intimidate the NBA into forcing Morey to be fired.

IMO their absolute and unchecked ability to impose their will domestically tends to foster an unrealistic set of expectations for imposing their will internationally.

I'm sure some in the military see Russia in Crimea and think that worked out pretty well for Russia.

I think they are prime candidates to miscalculate and attempt to take Taiwan by force at some point this century. Probably down the line when they calculate they have military parity with the US, which they've been very cleary working towards.

Full scale wars are almost always the result of a miscalculation by one side or the other.

 

That's a possibility but I think unlikely. The PRC is still very aware of the economic situation and they know that an invasion of Taiwan will be very costly in blood and treasure. It will tank the PRC economy and that is the biggest factor in the CCP legitimacy. As stated they are relying heavily on soft power and as long as Taiwan doesn't do anything to radically change the situation the PRC will likely continue that strategy.

If there is a miscalculation that could get the PRC into a shooting war I think what's going on in Ladakh is far more likely to happen.

 

Biden should finish what Trump started. Nuke everyone.
