That happened many occasions in game 4 too. Both Francis and Mobely refused to pass to Boki when he was wide open. There are too many players that want to be the star on this team.

JVG has been a jack*** from day one. He has absouletly no idea how to treat the modern player, not to metion how to use them. In my opinion the guy is worthless, and should have never been hired by our yankee owner.

    I say screw Les!!

And what "facts" say Boki is one that wants to be a star?

If anything, he's shown he wants to start for the team and hussle for his team while playing smart for as many minutes as possible.

    FREE BOKI!!:D

This team will not get to the next level under JVG-- even the fans in NY were happy to see this guy go. I thought JVG has done a horrible job with the team this year and the stats prove it: This year reg. season we averaged 89.8 ppg which was 25th in the league-- during the playoffs even worse - about 84 ppg. That is NOT gonna get it done in the west.

Compared to last year under Rudy T- we averaged 93.8 ppg, which was 20th in the league. And this was without an improved team including JJ/ a 2nd year Yao,+ Pike ( Rudy would definately be getting more out of him).

And please dont give me the "our defense is greatly improved" , or we made the playoffs argument to why JVG is a good coach. WE were a top 5 team defensively under Rudy and give Rudy this same lineup and we would have made the playoffs this year too. JVG has gotta go- the guy is clueless on offense, doesnt utilize Steve Francis correctly, and just doesnt seem to be getting the most out of anyone on our team. BRING BACK RUDY T!!

Rudy T would have got this team to playoffs last year if not for his cancer. And he would lead this team to the playoffs this year too.
Honestly, if I were a star player, I would not play my heart out for JVG when I see his icy cold face and listening to his b****ing mouth, and I want to play somewhere else. Imagine you have this kind of a boss, do you want to work for him whole heartedly?

Look at Sacremento and Dallas, they don't even understand the word defense and yet they are considered playoff contenders, while we have one fo the greatest D's in the league and yet everyone said Lakers in 6, guess we proved them wrong.

Players step up and win playoff games. When our players stepped up their games, we gave the Lakers all they could handle. When they didn't...when they disappeared...we lost. I don't hang that on JVG. If this team could hold on to the damn ball they would have won game 1, to begin with. Get some freakign handles and stop turning the ball over...unforced errors...20 some odd times a game, and my bet is you'll see scoring go up.

huh? Rudy T's offense was blessed to have one of the greatest centers of all times. it's not the system, it's the players. hakeem opened up the game for everyone else there. get him the damn ball, and then space out. that's it. no movement...just stand around...let him work...and then kick it out.

Rudy T's teams were defensive oriented..particularly those championship teams. They could absolutely grind it out with you...and again, Hakeem in the middle discouraged penetration in the lane.

Coaches' influences are overrated. Way overrated.

    My Problem is . . . .
When Shaq sits. . . all of a suddent JVG is moving YAO OUT OF THE POST

THIS HAS TO BE DESIGNED cause JVG ain't yellling during these times
    I'm like .. WHAT THE F . . . .

Game 5 . . should have called the time out at the end regulation

Great Coaches put their teams in positions to win
Good Coaches coach their teams well in various fundamentals

    I stated early this season
WHAT IS JVG's Offensive Scheme and never got a clear answer

    Inside out? Motion? What?

    Can someone just answer than . . . . .
In a PURE JVG world. . . what offense are we running?

ALSO Lack of overall scheme can lead to turnovers
best teams have a scheme they pass TO THE SPOT and not the man
cause they the man is moving there. . . . by design

when you have no roadmap so to speak . . . . you
try to anticipate and miscommunications mount

    Huh?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt in saying you didn't see the play since unless JJ had gotten the ball, stopped on a dime and headed back 20-feet, it wasn't going to be a three-point attempt. It was a perfect layup had he been fed the ball. Devean George had committed to Francis' side.

Steve is not a 60% free throw shooter -- he's a 77% free throw shooter (only 72% in this series). The odds I am talking about are of Francis making BOTH freebies. I just threw the 60% number out there, but it's not ridiculously far off I would imagine. Either way it's lower than a layup.

Point is, make all the excuses you like, he didn't go with the higher-percentage play .... though admittedly Francis' passing skills, at times, can make that a low-percentage play.

    Another thing
WHAT THE H*LL DOES JVG DO AT HALFTIME

We have been HORRIBLE coming out of Halftime
Other teams get a nice RAh RAH speech and come
out flying all over the court
    or team
comes out like they just came from the woodshed

It is one thing to say. . Professionals should not need a RAH RAH speech
    but . .
if it helps u win . . .why not do it??

JVG does not INSPIRE his players
    He tried to INTIMIDATE THEM

    Rocket River
I'm just hitting his short comings trust me. . he has a lot of good in him too

    I understand what u saying
That play . . I thought he should have passed it
but i said. . . OH WELL we will get to the PENALTY
alot quicker. . .. but i forgot we were in LA and fouls won't
    come that easily

One bad play . . . . not even that bad

Couldn't agree more. 6 fastbreak points in Game 5 with a league worst season average below 8. Pushing tempo, easy transition offense, less dribbling and fewer TO's....we are way to inefficient.

Too much of the offensive blame is being put on Van Gundy.

The weakness of the offense is no different than it was under Rudy, except Van Gundy is expecting the kind of offense that plays to the weakness of our players- good passing, smart decisions and ball movement.

We have made progress because there has been less dribble dribble dribble. But we have not changed. We are the same team.

Rudy played to this with the ISO style of 3 years ago. The NBA rules were changed to stop the ISO and that was a hit for Steve and Cuttino's ISO game.

Then the zone rules came in and now good passing and ball movement, with good spacing are even more important.

Van Gundy runs an offense similar to the Spurs. It can be very effective for a good defensive team if you make good decisions and take care of the ball.

Our players do not take care of the ball. Where did we rank on turnovers? We shoot ourselves in the foot with unforced errors more than any other team (except Washington).

Stop blaming the offense for something that has been in our offense for the last 5 years.

Rudy's offense was so simple. Put the best center in the game in the low block. surround him with good spacing and as many 3 pt. shooters as possible. Let him carry the team.

Geez in that system the ball movement was so basic, the passing was the easiest possible and you didn't need any basketball smarts to win. Just get it in to Hakeem on the block and space out on the 3 pt line.

Hakeem was a man, for years he broke down double and triple teams. And later on he even learned to pass out of the double team. Once we started getting good spacing and hitting 3's we won 2 championships.

Since Hakeem left his prime we haven't won another championship.

Now either fire Van Gundy and get someone else to come in and wave a magic wand that will turn our current players into good passers with excellent ball movement and smart decisions. Or let him beat his head up against the wall another year with this team.

So you think that Francis, on the run, with a defender back, had a 95% chance of making the pass correctly? Or that Jackson had a 95% chance of catching the ball properly in a position to make the layup? Or that J.J. then had a 95% chance of not blowing the gimme shot, or getting it blocked, or fumbling it on the way up the way he did a 3 point attempt earlier?

Taking the foul provides: 2 free throws to a good shooter, plus getting us closer to the penalty, plus helping get one of the Lakers into foul trouble. And, of course, the chance of putting up a shot, getting fouled, and getting the 3 point play. It's really splitting hairs to say he should have definitely passed. There are plenty of moments in the game and series you could point to as bad decision making, but imo this isn't really one of them.

You're right - the end result in this case was the same so it wasn't that bad. I just think his history suggests that it's not just "one play" with Steve on this type of inefficient play.

Jackson fumbled that three-point attempt, but he's a pretty solid player ... I would call that more of a fluke. Yeah, as mentioned before... with Francis making the pass, the percentage should be lower. To add insult to this, he's the point guard. That's part of the problem here.

Clutch's point (I think) is that just because Steve got the foul call does not indicate that he is smart or efficient on the break.

Glad he got the free throws but ask around the league and see if people believe that Steve's strong points are out running the fast break.

I hear people say it is a big weakness for the Rockets.

This is not a running team for 2 reasons. Defensive rebounding and bad decisions/passing on fast breaks.

Some team run well others don't. We don't.

    Blame whoever you like.

I don't think Steve is very strong on the break.

    That is so true.
For people complaining about SF, he was by far the Rockets best player this series. Even last not Mike Dunleavy was talking about the the good decision SF was making with the ball. He's not the problem. Having your 7'6 center have games in which is gets 4-5 boards is at least as much the problem as 4 turnovers from your pg.
