I 1000% agree with this. I'll take it a step further - I hope he spends the money on the only remaining member of the championship core who hasn't been extended. The Springer (and Brantley) losses hurt. Signing our homegrown 26-year-old SS and team leader to a long term, market rate contract would have a value in excess of raw numbers.
I wonder if the Astros might trade for Grichuk? Toronto might be willing to eat some of his salary or include a prospect to make room for Springer and Brantley. He's relatively young, can play CF, and might benefit from the short LF porch in MMP.
Man it sucks having to constantly rely on making trades instead of spending cash on FAs/extending players
What do you mean? Did the Astros not extend Altuve, Bregman, JV, Yuli, etc. Did they not sign Brantley to come here in the first place?
I understood the reason for not signing Springer. I'm not understanding the reason for them not signing Brantley. But to be fair, it seems Brantley was set on following Springer.
Quoted from the now closed thread. We've gotten so used to being armed to the teeth that it's kind of skewed our perspective. Everybody has holes in their lineup, but honestly we're one quality outfield bat away from still having a top tier lineup. Only C (an offensive hole for most teams) and CF would be dead spots. If we make absolutely no moves it will be a problem, but even then we're probably still projected to win 85-90 games.

No doubt we have become spoiled. Its just hard so go from being the favored contender (2017-19), to just a contender (2020), to maybe not a contender at all (2021)(World Series Contender). To me, not only do we need a OF bat, we need a TOR starter and more relief help (to be serious WS contenders). If we are only shooting for division contender, then the bar is lower.
The article indicates done. But the article also claims the same sauce as I did, so maybe its wrong also.
George is Mt. Rushmore in my heart. No the regular season numbers don’t add up to the likes of Biggio and Bags, but... Dude brought it in the postseason, was a huge part of what so many of the “greats” before him could not do. I could go on and on. No I wouldn’t have given him 150 million, but glad he got paid. He helped give me something that I waited 37 years for and he will forever be a fav of mine.
Eh - this is probably true of most teams. How many players are left from the Cubs 2016 title or the Red Sox 2018 title?
