Hitters don't want to have to deal with the non stop taunting they will receive, and I don't blame them. All former Astros from 2017 will be gone in a few years including Altuve and Bregman. I'm sure they want a fresh start as well.
He and Springer were best friends but agree... playing for the Astros will be a tough spot for players.
Toronto's going for it now while they have so many cost controlled players. Neither of these contracts will likely age well, but this is their window.
Springer, Brantley, Biggio, Gurriel, and Tyler White are Blue Jays, but they still have enough orange running through their veins to bounce the Yankees.
Right now, the Astros have too many holes to automatically be considered the second-best team in the American League. While a full season of Alvarez will help, and, hopefully, Altuve returns to form, Click has his work cut out to adequately replace Springer and Brantley’s offense. Also, while the starting rotation and bullpen are talented, they have a lot of question marks, too.
The Astros were never going three years on Brantley and the Astros were never going 6 years for George Springer. Good for the Jays fans, and some of this Jays success is linked to decisions the Astros made, not drafting Biggio and walking away from a deal with the younger Gurriel. Had the Astros drafted/signed that duo, the Blue Jays may not be in a position where they want to spend as much or at the minimum, the Astros wouldn't have massive holes in the outfield. Either way, Click needs to try and do something because right now the Astros look gutted.
I agree we do, but I also think our expectations are a little warped with how stacked we were the last few years.
This. Springer is a Blue Jay because he got 5/150 and Brantley is one as well because he got a 3 year contract. So lets see....... Biggio and Gurriel that the Astros passed on...... Former Astros..... Springer, Brantley, Fisher, Hernandez, Thornton, White, Perez
They are warped for sure. Even with that, the Astros can likely make up for the lost offense if they sign Ozuna and a random centerfielder and have Alvarez coming back.
I am waiting for the GARM sentiments to carry over and the "Players Dont Want to Play in Houston" and "Total Rebuild" threads to start appearing. While I posted these leavings, they are not surprising. What is becoming surprising is the Astros lack of moves to this point.
