Losing Springer stings. Springer was the heart and soul of the great Astros teams over the past 5 years. He always brought the energy and delivered the key hits to lead comebacks. He had a winning attitude all the time and set the tempo for the team. He made others better.
Hope Leon is legit and can make an impact quickly. Losing George stinks but understandable given his age and contract demands. I love me some Springer but always assumed he was gone. Sigh.
We were never gonna resign Springer. Nor do Springer want to resign with us. If he did, he would have signed an extension before Breg did. Time to move on.
Couple thoughts... 1. Hopefully Leon can be half the player Georgey was. Tall order, obviously. 2. While we’re all going to undoubtedly miss him, it seems like the writing has been on the wall for some time that George wasn’t returning and seemingly did not want to return. I don’t doubt that he loved our fans, but his relationship with the organization was not exactly smooth sailing, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know he’ll be able to avoid the spew of hatred to come our way in 2021 and beyond 3. our team will be worse without his presence in the lineup and in the clubhouse, but it’s not insurmountable. Lets see what the FO can piece together—still lots of reasons to be excited for this team. George had elite intangibles, hopefully Click has some tricks up his sleeve.
With this expected news... do we realistically lose Correa next year as well or will crane pay up to at least keep him?
Some of you guys are so ungrateful seriously. Crane was the same guy that took on the Grienke cap just so we can make a championship run that year. Just because he doesn't wanna throw 150 million at a declining star doesn't make him a bad owner suddenly.
Blue Jays still trying for free-agent outfielder Michael Brantley, sources tell @TheAthletic. Brantley is close friends with George Springer and represented by same agency, Excel Sports Management. Wrote Sunday about possibility of NBA-style package deal. https://t.co/er4Jj5HtF6
So Springer, Hernandez, Grichuk, Gurriel, and maybe Brantley. If they sign Brantley, I wonder if they would consider trading Gurriel and would Click be interested?
