I remember when 3.5" used to be called a "hard disc".

This was to differentiate them from the 5" floppies that were actually pliable and also still in common use as a media format.

Over time 3.5" became known as "floppies" too because of their similarity to the 5" plus the term was just a lot easier to say.

Language is a lot like water, it often follows the path of least resistance, whether we want it to or not.

I think it's going to be a lot harder for newer idioms / sayings to take root and have any sort of staying power.

With the way social media moves and how fast culture shifts, memes and sayings come and go quickly.

Considering Chinese will be the only language by 2150, I guess all of them?

except that in this case technology is unlikely to do away with nails via tech advances

Thank you, Jeeves, that will be all.

Costs an arm and a leg.
    Piece of cake.
    Up in the air.
    Stabbed in the back.
    Rule of thumb.
    Go to the head.

‘Put some elbow grease into it’

We’ll probably hear this less and less as the days of every guy being a mechanic are done. Cars are disposable; you either take the car into the shop or replace it.

    They did. Just ask Jeeves.

Slight alternatives were "This 8 track be bumpin" and "This 8 track, hard AF"

Dialing a phone didn't die with the rotary phone. People still use it even if it makes no sense. People in court still ask for surveillance tapes, like most places are recording their CCTV with a VCR nowadays. Technology moves faster than the lexicon, and I expect that will continue.
