Just wait and see. I just don't believe in us drafting our way to championship excellence. Now via trade/trade exceptions I can see that. We can use our draft picks in trade. Plus I don't see this franchise sitting on their hands for years drafting irrelevant players out of college or overseas somewhere between the 10th and 20th over and over in hopes of being a championship contender again.

With all the draft picks we acquired I'd be surprised if we don't ultimately end up with a really good player. Even if we draft a young player or players with potential and flip them until we get our guy.

Certainly getting the impression that the Rockets are open to negotiations with Oladipo. Looking forward to see if Wall can integrate with him better than he did with Harden. Wall's contract means he's a part of the future regardless. So...Wall-Oladipo-Wood as a 3pc meal? Idk, even if the plan becomes resigning Oladipo to pair with Wood I still believe Wall's ultimate destiny here is to rehab his trade value and find a partner to agree to his contract.

Btw Oladipo had a pretty good game. He is over the age of 25 so I guess that doesn't count for the boo birds. And there is no absolute guarantee he will resign so who cares.

If we go with a Wall-Oladipo-Wood (WOW) Core, then I hope Rockets fans are ready to be firmly affixed to the mediocrity treadmill. That's a "first round exit" Big 3 if there ever was one.

 

We very well could be a first round exit or possibly worse not even make the playoffs altogether. But wouldn't it be somewhat fair to actually have all of those guys on the court together first before making this claim?

Your question is reasonable. I'm basing my assessment off of seeing them play individually, and using that to make a (kinda) informed guess. I think my guess is right, but it could in fact be wrong for the reason you bring up.

So yeah. You bring up a good objection that I can't dismiss. But... I still don't think the WOW Core* will take us anywhere that we want to go.

I hope so too! I hope we can move Oladipo at the deadline for youth and/or pick(s). I hope we can later move Wall for the same.

 

I have 0 expectations for this squad right now. The only thing I do expect is for Oladipo to play hard to showcase himself so we can figure out what direction we take with him (trying to sign him long-term or flipping him at the trade deadline). I got a feeling VO won't be with this squad long but I might be wrong.
