Some of you need to relax with TF. Its always good to have an owner who is very energetic towards his team. This team is his baby and he will never let it go, unlike that carpetbagger Alexander. At least TF would not run off with the championship trophies. Patrick will eventually take over. He has proven to be competent. We could be the next Lakers if some of you will be patient.

He has so far shown a willingness to spend his money and also surround himself with very astute people and has allowed them to do their job.

Will it work? Time will tell, but he is the picture of an ideal owner in many ways thus far.

A rational take aimed at largely irrational people. I could see how this could go very poorly.

That carpetbagger did not let go of the organization for 24 years, that is half an eternity in the NBA.

He is one of the poorest billionaires, if you can say that, he divorced his ex spouse for 150 million.

You can’t measure heart. To build chemistry, guys gave to sacrifice to enhance synergy. Include the fact that there is a salary cap.

Plus for most of those guys mentioned, there were plenty of teams that would have handed out those exact same contracts or even more money.

I thought Morey did a great job. He needed a change of scenery, and he got it. Let’s see if the 76’ers with all that talent make it to the finals. I’ll still root for him, he was a swell guy.

Yeah that's it. Morey is so bad that he got insta-hired by another team.

True. And he brought us 2 championships. TF will recover.

With TF, we are in the fourth Turning. We might sit in the gutter for a handful of years, but eventually we will see the new Hakeem/Clyde duo bring the city a new championship.
    SF/Cuttion couldn't cut it
    Yao/McGrady couldn't cut it
Harden/Half the leagues super stars couldn't cut it.

The team was already build to a championship level when Less bought them he did nothing to add to it.

Tillman runs the team as a business...trying to make a profit. He cuts cost and looks to squeeze whatever he can from the team. Also, he uses the team to leverage his own brand and his other businesses. Obviously its his team and he paid a lot of money, so he can run it as he fits. All his businesses are currently hurting and it looks like he will be hurting for the time being for some time, which means the fans are in for a bad time.

Les on the other hand, like many other owners did not run the Rockets as his business or primary income. It was his passion project. Sort of like Cuban and Ballmer. Yes, he did not spend money to get into the luxury tax but he did spend money on tools to make his teams successful. Analytics team, buying picks, etc...this is what kept Rockets fans, especially die hards happy and engaged.

I think with Tillman, he's going to learn very quickly that he will lose a lot of fans with the way he is running his team. Again, his team. I hope I'm wrong and I hope he finds a vision for the team.

LOL@ Les not running this team as a business.

Just as funny as NBA twitter suddenly thinking Harden is a "fun player to watch"

What specifically has Patrick done to prove he is competent? He memorized the Bucks roster? That is the only thing I've heard about him. What school did he go to? Did he go to MIT and get a quant degree, or did he got to a top 3 law school like Stanford? The next Lakers, seriously? You realize the Lakers were a dumpster fire for over a decade and forced Magic who is an icon of the franchise to quit. One sibling fired the other that is the Lakers post Kobe. Lebron chose to go there because he wanted to be in LA and shoot Space Jam 2, sell shoes, and his son was at Sierra Canyon. This comparison makes zero sense because the only reason the Lakers are relevant again is because of their location. and Lebron choosing to go there. The family has not done a good job running the team since Dr. Buss passed. This team tanked and ended up with D'Angelo Russell at the #2 overall pick and Lonzo Ball at the #2 overall pick. If it weren't for the weather and beaches, this team would still be a dumpster fire.

What makes you think he would have a choice in keeping the team? Read the articles on how he leveraged his casinos to finance the Rockets, and then read the state of all of his businesses. He is facing a complete liquidity crisis, and Wall Street has zero interest any minority interest equity offerings, the guy is done. This team will be sold in 18 months or less The Buss family has no debt on the Lakers and they are the most profitable NBA team for many reasons. The debt service on the Rockets will make them the least profitable team in the league. We are not the Lakers and never will be.

I always thought Les's main motivation for bringing in Morey was actually because he wanted the team to be run more like a business, not so much about ushering in a new revolution in advanced stats. He needed someone who could make the Rockets as profitable as possible, and part of that was an order for him keep the team a playoff contender no matter what.

First of all there’s this conception that non 99ers are smart

you can tell them that Tilman is not Dolan.
Most of these newbs don’t real is that the Knicks owner is rich and spends lots of money on bad players
Tilman is not rich so there’s no correlation

Has there ever been better proof that the board needs a laugh response as well as the like response?

    Why can't it be both?

He wanted someone who could arbitrage undervalued assets and avoid Kelvin Cato (or Juwon Howard) mega contracts based off a lucky preseason.

It also helped immensely that Morty and his team were CBA pioneers who spoke the same wavelength as Les (though maybe that gift became a curse of differing expectations between fans and owner on how to (over)use that cap space

Moneyball (book) was already well known in the sports circuit. Even if basketball was more unpredictable, Les knew he could audition the best of the crop and learn what their thoughts on current tech could bring to the emerging analytics field.

Winning back to backs was a powerful drug for Les but anyone can tell whether a team has It too win it all, so he rarely committed to breaking the cap. Who even knows if he'd break it in his last year's if he didn't want to sell (both to raise the win count and also try that One Last Time).

Seemed like Morty came with a roadmap that Les believed enough to commit non-lux tax money into (analytics operations, rights to foreign picks that never touched foot in us, outward cash considerations .

Les trusted Morey to make the decisions, Tilman gave into Harden's demands and forced Morey to make the Westbrook trade (horrible player, horrible trade terms).

Les cared about the salary cap, but Tilman prioritizes it.

Les was generally hands off, Tilman is hands on.

Les was in the background and didn't desire the spotlight. Tilman likes the attention. Not to the point of Mark Cuban, but he still likes the spotlight.

    @JayGoogle

Say all you want about him, but he is a good person.

I do not think many would have helped someone like Delonte that much at least.
