I dont understand leasterby's thinking here. Hes hated by the players and has had his name dragged through the mud and deservedly so. What does he want to accomplish? No one is going to respect him in the organization going forward and he will have no future in the nfl beyond cals reach. So, why does he even want the job anymore? Why not bow out and just become cals life coach away from the team or something? This whole scenario makes no sense. Edit: Not to mention all the fans never letting him have a peaceful day or night in this city. He wont even be able to enjoy a single meal out with his family.
I don't know. It seems like he's almost completely ruined any positive image he has league wide, if he hasn't already. He'll probably never get another position like this again once he leaves Houston so he might just be trying to pocket as much of Cal's money as he can before that day comes. He probably also believes he's on a mission from God. So . . .
Never underestimate delusional evangelicals like Easterby. They will believe anything and can rationalize anything
even if in theory Easterby knew that resigning is the right thing to do, he knows he is never getting another NFL job again permanent loss of income is a hell of a motivator to hang on to your job
Easterby’s unchecked and, frankly, delusional ambitions (a league source tells PFT that he openly aspires to be the General Manager of a team) has contributed to the mess in which he now finds himself. If Easterby wants the truth, here it is: He shouldn’t be the executive V.P. of football operations, for any NFL team. The league has many other potential candidates for that type of position with far greater credentials, qualifications, and experience than Easterby. Every day that Easterby has that job, a truly worthy candidate necessarily is denied the opportunity to grow and to flourish in a position for which he or she is far better suited than Easterby. Easterby, in our assessment, believed he could establish a foothold in the world of football with a thin and/or embellished resume. Then, with his personality and penchant for playing the “Man of God” card, he climbed and he climbed and he climbed. And as the old saying goes, the higher someone climbs a tree, the more exposed that person’s ass becomes. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...bys-literal-hail-mary-play-has-worked-so-far/
Easterby doesn’t have to leave the team. Cal just needs to give him a job that keeps him away from the players. Let him manage the Texans team store or whatever.
So why not just convince cal to just have him around as a life coach in prayer or something? Im sure cal wants him around in some facet, just let it be on a personal basis and away from the team. Hell, have cal build him a church and let him preach there.
The damage has already been done. The Texans front office cannot get ahold of Deshaun anymore. He has cut off communication with the team. I tried warning everyone, Cal has made his choice. Jack Easterby will be with the team going forward. Deshaun will not. Expect a trade before the draft.
Remember last year when we traded Hopkins and thought that it couldn’t get any worse. Easterby and Cal McNair said hold my beer. So what washed up players will we trade Deshaun for????
You don't get it. Watson will be here. He has NO leverage. NFL has Made holding out PUNITIVE. Remember when Kamara was going to hold out? Didn't happen.
Wow. Has Watson given them the ultimatum (Me or Easterby) yet? Or are the recent news come after the ultimatum already? Forgive me, I am still in denial with James Harden not being a Rockets anymore.
True, however, the kamara and saints situation was nowhere near as toxic as this one. I don’t think we have the people in our front to salvage this relationship. I am hoping we don’t trade him because he is the best qb this city has had since warren moon. So the options are keep a disgruntled player in toxic environment and hope it improves. Or trade him to try and establish “culture”. Which decision do you think our front office clowns will make
McNair may be naive, but he is not dumb. He knows the fanbase will burned down NRG if he traded Watson. Patience. Let's see what happens with the coach.
