Can we take a second and imagine what the right would be saying if Obama led an insurrection and coup attempt that led to the death of a cop + 15 hospitalzed?

    LOL

Good info. It's not my personal hill to die on and make a fuss over on social media. I'm just used to seeing Father Frank Pavone copy/paste stuff unfortunately from certain family members.

I don’t even like talking politics with my dad and we’re on the same side. If he was a Trumper that’d be very difficult.

I think what @malakas may not understand is that what she's suggesting has been the typical response by Democrats time and again for decades to gross, outrageous behavior amid a cacophony lies orchestrated and repeated by Republicans during attacks against Democratic candidates during state and federal political campaigns.

Afterwards, if they lost and are getting criticized for their campaign tactics, they come up with, "Oh, we didn't mean it. We got carried away. It's not who we are and you misunderstood what we were trying to say. Please forgive us!" Usually, most Democrats do and those running the GOP campaigns laugh at our naivety if they think we're not looking.

And if the Republicans used the same tactics and won, and we complain? They are openly derisive and say what amounts to, "That's tough. Don't like it? Take your toys and go home." I've seen it happen in one form or another many times over the years.

We're foolish to let them get away with it, yet do far too often, but this is something else entirely. This was a direct attack on the government of the United States, the US Congress, and the Capitol of this country. It was a coup attempt by radicalized Republicans, radicalized and led by trump and his sycophant's, his collaborators. They don't deserve one bit of forgiveness. They deserve to go to jail if they broke the law, and those that supported this coup attempt with words deserve contempt.

Most have gone silent. They were vocal supporters before. Some are ignoring it and just crying about hypocrisy. Some are still blaming ANTIFA.

About the same percentage as 10 Republican house members have changed their tune.

    No it's not that.
The real truth is that I simply do not care enough.

I mean I don't even bother to know what Trump did all these years except for the pandemic and you know..the coup.
And I already think that he deserves death.

If I was in @Major or others position there's almost certainty that I would say the same because..it isn't easy to forgive and forget.
It takes a better woman than me to do it .especially if I saw the parliament being minutes away from being lynched and the army camped inside the Capitol to protect them.I would find it very difficult to forgive and it would take TIME.

I am like the UN coming from nowhere and saying to Palestinians oh you suffered and starved?move on already and burry the hatchet and heal.

And what I see as an outsider is that a big part of americans don't even bat an eye anymore to an armed toppling of democracy and are openly or secretly supporting terrorists.

    So what can I say?

Open your arms to at least those who are reachable.

    These aren't normal times.

The distinction at this point isn't between Trump voters and non Trump voters.

    But patriots and terrorist supporters.

So many stories... luckily I don't have to deal with it too much with family or friends, but I have some neighbors and other people I have to interact with that are f*cking nuts.

If anyone has remained a Trumper after the past four years, then January 6 is not going to change anything. They will always make some excuse why Trump is not at fault.

Remember what Trump said? “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters”.

Sadly, he was right about that.

Trump could take a piss on his supporters and they would think they were being drenched in liquid gold.

Wife and I both come from large families 9 and 6 siblings respectively. Catholics, of course. I would say12/15 bros and sisters were Bernie Sanders supporters. 2 Warren and perhaps 1 Biden. All Democrats. One sister unhappily divorced has been going to a fundamentalist "Christian" church the last few years for support I guess, but
since she in not an abortion nut, I am pretty sure probably voted Dem. I know her kids were mostly Bernie supporters and certainly Dems. All of the nieces and nephews voted Dem and the majority were Bernie supporters or perhaps relatively apolitical Dems.

A few just follow the herd, our parents and the rest of the siblings and are not that up on political news Aside from ABC Nightly News or such. Our parents were all Dems and my parents would certainly identify with very liberal. "Almost socialist" according to mom when I was a teenager. I would classify my parents as Christian Socialists. The wife's parents were Latino Dems who were not born middle class or wealthy and always knew which party helped people like them the most. . A couple of the siblings on both sides married moderate Repubs, and for the most part got them to convert.

I wouldn’t be able to interact with any friend or family member if they were full-blown MAGA...I would want absolutely nothing to do with them

I have 1 family member who voted for Trump in 2016, and it was solely because of abortion and thinking he wouldn’t be that bad...Idk what she did in 2020

We have got to remember, expecting people to change their opinion on Trump is asking them to admit that that have been fools. That's just not going to happen. It's rare in human nature.

But as charges are tried, co-conspirators in the GOP are identified, retractions from their news sources are printed, corporate America defunds the message and dark money support for radicals an liars wanes, we will see a slow shift in opinion. They are never going to admit it, but will be less enthusiastic in their support.

Maybe the best tact is for the more support for more standard GOP leaders, and their candidates that are going to get 'primaried'. Let the voice of reason overpower the voice of radical hate. within their own body.
If you could cause a split between the party ideologies, you could probably minimize the results from both.

Good point. Trump has always been a conman and Trump Presidency is just another Con. It's very difficult to admit you were conned and in many cases it's easier to just double down and dig deeper.

My favorite line out of Game of Thrones is "Most men will deny a hard truth than face it." That is very relevant in these times.

I only have three or four friends who voted for Trump. They are mostly just Republicans and have always been sort of embarrassed by Trump. I have only talked to one recently and he would probably vote for Trump again if he ran as a Republican. Sort of a soft MAGA unlike the others and he seeks to blame Dems for what happened or equate the Capitol thing with BLM, but the Trump supporters in DC went too far.

OMG! Inspired by the thread, I just talked to one of the Trump supporting friends, -- a lawyer-- who told me he had been thinking of going to DC for the event. He lives in W Virginia. He would not have entered the Capitol. He calls himself a Democrat (I assumed he was a Republican) and says he also likes Bernie Sanders as he is "the most honest". He hates Biden as being corrupt and is upset about all the violence of BLM burning down businesses. Talking about a mixed bag.

I've heard a few Trump supporters say they like or have no problem with Sanders. Of course they will also say the problem with Democrats is that they are Socialists and that Biden is just a puppet for the Progressives.

Most Republicans will blame Biden/Dems for the riots not Trump. Let's not kid ourselves
