The Stone Roses - Second Coming Suede - Dog Man Star Two highly flawed albums although Suede's 2nd album is better than the Roses. Yet the departure of Bernard Butler before the sessions were over and Brett Anderson not wanting to listen to him makes the album, in my mind, a "what could have been" but still a good album. The Roses' 2nd album?? What a bloody mess! It starts with the first track which is a bloated 11 minute plus and has John Squire giving his best Jimmy Page impersonation. Outside of "Ten Storey Love Song", there is not a lot on that album that is memorable to me. It dismays me to no end how a great band like them can give us their sterling debut album and then release an overlong bloated piece of crap. Okay, I am being pretty harsh here but if they had cut this album down to about 50 minutes (instead of 78) and had several more songs like "Ten Storey Love Song" and leave out that last track completely, it would have been much better. Granted, last night was only the 3rd time I have listened all the way through that album (and I have owned that album for over 20 years), so maybe it would grow on me. But I can't tell you the next time I will listen to it.
