I haven't been paying attention to the Texans since they traded Hopkins, but when did Tony Dungy get involved with the hiring decision? I didn't realize there was a relationship with him and Cal. [Edit:] I see he formed an ad hoc committee of Dungy, Jimmy Johnson, Andre Johnson, and RC Buford. I guess he didn't list to AJ lol.
Personally, I found this article to be pretty insightful on why Staley is a rock-solid HC candidate. I think he's actually probably the guy I want the most at this point. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...y-latest-los-angeles-rams-coaching-wunderkind The quote below is really what convinced me.
Daboll to Chargers makes a ton of sense. A good young team with a lot of talent. And a big, young, rocket-for-an-arm QB just like he had in Buffalo. Except Herbert is lightyears ahead of where Allen was at the same point in their respective careers. I think Daboll could have near-immediate success in LA.
This is an interesting theory. Comes from this article: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/time-to-put-deshaun-watson-trade-rumors-to-miami-to-rest/
There is talk that Bieniemy will deny the request and who could blame him when you have that thing over there at Reliant. But if I'm EB I'd grant the request and ask for 9 mill a year. Top 5 coaching salary. Shoot your shot, EB. As time has passed, I'm no longer high on EB. (insert guy holding girl's hand looking at someone else meme)
I agree about your point about the NFL compared to the NBA. But man ol man if Watson holds out or ask for a trade because he doesn’t get his way. It will be bad very bad no matter if Watson is right or wrong the fanbase hell even the city will burn NRG.
Is EB really in the position to turn down more jobs? Normally only do that when there's a job in hand... is he the front-runner for any of the jobs thus far? I guess if the Texans sign Brady, he could end up with the Falcons.
There was an article say EB probably wasnt gonna get a gig in this vacancy cycle. Pretty damning with so many openings atm.
Great find on the article! Brady's been my guy for awhile now, but after hearing/reading that about Staley I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him at all. I'm like you, don't want an old-school, status quo kinda guy. I'm ready to swing for the fences on a wunderkid too. Just didn't know it would be on defense. Need to let Deshaun be part of the interview process, and if we get his "blessing", sign him up! Don't give him a chance to shop around if he's really that special! Still think we need some new offensive blood in our coaching ranks though. Can we just call Joe Brady "assistant head coach - offense" and give him a nice raise!
On board with Staley, even though it's pretty easy to have a great defense with Aaron Donald and Ramsey, like the two best players at their position in the NFL. I'd rather have a stud defensive guy and let Watson scrap enough points to win than go into shootouts every game cause our offense is great but our defense can't stop anybody either.
Dumbass tweet Mike “With the Jaguars hiring Urban Meyer to coach the team, Mike Vrabel already in Tennessee, and Frank Reich in Indianapolis, the AFC South now has three excellent coaches — assuming Meyer’s college success translates to the NFL.”
Fun fact: Tom Landry and Dan Reeves were both player-coaches. Landry with the Giants and Reeves with the Cowboys. If we want Watson to do the hiring, maybe he could do some coaching also. QB and OC, or maybe HC. Would be entertaining. Not sure how the pay would work.
