You combine a historically bad defense with a terrible running game and you can't control the clock and keep the historically bad defense off the field. Also, with that terrible running game, they became predictable in the red zone and struggled to score in the red zone. Just a bad combination that will always prevent you from winning games. Regardless of your QB.
In what category? Run defense? Absolutely. There were two other teams in our neighborhood but not worse this season alone in run defense. And of course two teams worse in total yardage and 5 teams worse in PPG. This team is just flat out bad all around.
i cant find the snippet. I may have run across it on twitter - maybe it was JUST the run defense that was THAT bad (hard to imagine because the pass defense was pretty freaking bad itself.) I'll keep digging. I remember it dated back to 2004 and the Texans were ranked something like 238 out of 240 defensive units in that period.
