This and every move made by Tilman in the last year is an aggressive reduction of salary. It seems his goal is not getting under the luxury tax but far under the luxury tax and he will then receive money from over the tax teams.

His restaurants, casinos and entities are ground zero for covid and his extreme amounts of leverage reduce his ability to make ends meet.
Needing $300 million at 15% is akin to borrowing on a credit card to pay your mortgage.

His empire is a disaster and unless there is significant government support or access to credit it will fail.

We as Rockets fans are feeling the brunt of this levered gamble and it's resulting in every move the last two years being to
look like something big and flashy was being done while everything under the surface had one goal:
Reduce salary to receive a subsidy from other wealthier teams.
Unfortunately that resulted in a very thin team in 2019 as we traded good assets and picks to reduce salary and
did not have the depth to beat the warriors and cost cutting ever since.

Getting an expiring contract and future potentially mediocre draft picks for the greatest offensive weapon of the last 10 years and a perennial MVP candidate is just selling our assets and the future of the team we all love to get out of the disastrous hole of debt that he is in.

I'm absolutely disgusted as a Rockets fan for 30 years and will not watch another game, buy a ticket or support this team in
    any way under this owner.

Wall is going to get moved too.

He will be 31 next season and he is not all star caliber player.

The turd sandwich or giant douche?

I guess the Nets package since they should eventually suck and they are unprotected picks.

    Great.

Rockets will just give up even the illusion of playing ANY defense if building around Wood AND Porter.

We have Brooklyn Nets draft control until 2027. They just gutted their franchise for a 2-3 year window which counts on the 3 biggest Divas in the league to play nice. Including this year it is conceivable that we have 4-5 top 5 lottery picks between now and 2027. Can’t ask for much more from a rebuild.

Simmons is only intriguing because OKC and Nee Orleans may have traded for him. And those teams have like 20 first round picks combined we coulda gotten.

    I think so .

if you trade james you need to push the outlook as far as possible forward .

Simmons places some immediate pressure to perform well (which isn’t necessarily bad) but if your team isn’t good he may leave for nothing in a year or two (Even if he’s under contract this is an possibility lol )

So I think you’ve got to spread the value of the trade to lower the risk .

outside of brown I don’t think any one of the young players (mentioned) is enough to give up 2 picks and 2 swaps or something like that .

    Wall
    Gordon
    Thybulle
    Simmon
    Wood

Not good enough . Wood isn’t proven yet . He has 3 years to see if he’s good enough to be a #2 . Wall is high risk and eating up 40 million .

our own roster isn’t good enough to go the retool and punchers chance route / flip guys in 1-2 years .

I think we need total tank job . OKC complicates things , but we have a couple years where I didn’t think our own picks were too vulnerable (maybe I’m wrong)

plus , as others have mentioned there’s the Tilman / Silas / stone dynamic . I think the first is terrible and the other two are unproven . Part of your success as a contending team is convincing good veterans to come for cheap (or for fair value ) . That is a huge question mark .

We need to go ground-up , build a culture , and hope houston remains a relatively Attractive place . in general , the last thing you wanna do is take chances on Eric Gordon and Ryan anderson in FA . Worked out Ok for us because we had Harden and Morey (and enough value we built up to have depth and trade for Cp3)

that isn’t the case this time . I don’t think we have a single top 15-25 player . We might not even have a top 10-15 player by position group .

Time to find diamonds in the rough , see what wood’s got , build Draft assets and find guys that have top tier potential .

Hopefully free agents don't sign to BK during prime tank years for us

Good luck finding a buyer. Any suggestions on who would actually want him and that could trade for him?

Maybe a positive of getting future picks is that somehow Tilman will completely bottom out and be forced to sell leaving something for the new ownership to work with. Wishful thinking but I’d love for someone to come out of left field and make him an offer he can’t refuse.

Tilman made the right deal to save him money in the short and long term; this has nothing to do with being competitive now or in the future. The Rockets traded a better package for Westbrook than they received for Harden.

The Rockets are the Knicks now, but cheap.

    TF screwed Morey hard.

    1. Didn't give him Harden
    2. Create an in-devision monster in BKN almost assuring that the Sixers will never reach the Finals for the foreseeable future.

I’ll be so pissed if they attach more assets to him to dump his contract.

There’s a reason why they’re high on cole anthony

wall isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The list of teams capable of taking on a super max is extremely limited. And for it to make sense is next to none. Especially wall at this stage of his career

Ya'll need to chill on this. Harden, KD and Kyrie all have player options after next season. Kyrie is almost a negative asset right now. Harden has alienated every other star he's played with since becoming elite and how his game will age is questionable. After they overpay to re-sign Dinwiddie in the offseason their cap sheet probably won't have a single positive asset if KD and Harden don't age well or end up leaving and they'll have nothing to use to retool.

The new lottery system also adds a lot more value for unprotected picks because even a team with the 8th worst odds or whatever had a decent shot to land in the top 4.

Of the teams discussed the Nets were by far the best from which to get unprotected picks a couple years out.

Even the 2022 Milwaukee pick is only a long Giannis injury from turning out to have very good value.

I think the value of Philly's package would largely depend on the protections on the picks. I like Simmons better than a lot of CF but he's still a flawed player and the clock starts ticking to build a competitive team with him immediately.
