John Forbes Kerry tries to be all things to all people, all the time. This time, it bit him in the butt. He tried to "be as one" with the angry hippie protestors of the Vietnam War by throwing 'medals' over the fence. He tried to use that to his political advantage then. Now, when trying to get votes outside of the uber-liberal Massachusetts, he has to go softer on the issue. Hence, the "medals, ribbons same thing" nonsense, and the "I threw other people's medals and my own ribbons" doublespeak. The man has no character. None.

All of this is on top of leaving Vietnam at the first possible opening, based on three very minor shrapnel-related wounds. In doing so, he left his 'brothers' out there on their own, all the while he was back in the States, eroding public support for the war and putting troops in danger. All the while, he was accusing his 'brothers' of war crimes and atrocities. The man is a two-face, and there is no question about it. His humiliating eruption on Good Morning America this morning just brought that to light for the millions of viewers. It won't be long before he has his own Howard Dean moment.

Of course his 'brothers' don't feel that way. Almost everyone who served with him speak very highly of him. I'm surprised that you mentioned his shrapnel wounds after being shown up in the thread where you asked for details surrounding those wounds. To this day kerry still carries a piece of shrapnel lodged in him.

Kerry said that U.S. soldiers in Viet Nam did all those things. While some of those may have been exaggerations, and Kerry as basically admitted as much, we do know that Viet Nam Vets did in fact commit war crimes, and burn villages, rape women, etc. Kerry never claimed that everyone in the war did this.

But even if he all of what you are getting at is true, couldn't Kerry just say those were youthful indiscretions and get a pass on them like our president did?

He could try that approach, but instead he chooses to lie about it and engage the American people in his endless word games and doublespeak. Charlie Gibson called him out on it, and you saw him squirm today on national tv. He wouldn't be squirming if he were being forthright. Instead, he is struggling to get his story straight and try to pass it all off as believable.

Me too... and I want them to grow up in a country that however flawed still has the potential of reaching the ideas and ideals established by the founding fathers, vindicated by Lincoln, enhanced by Teddy, preserved by the Greatest Generation and expanded by people like MLK, Jr.

I don't want them to grow up in a country where selfishness is the prime consideration. I don't want them to grow up in a country where the idea of meritocracy is considered inferior to oligarchic chumminess. I don't want them to grow up in an isolated, insular country. I don't want them to grow up in a country that shrugs and doesn't care about policy failures, economic failure, graft, and corruption. And I especially don't want them to grow up in a world where people are afraid and allow strong leaders to provide safety.

Freedom's not free... and neither is it safe.

Very well said. That's exactly right. Freedom's not for sissies that are willing to give up their basic liberties when the going gets a little tough.

Once again, you show your ignorance. Had you actually seen Kerry's appearance on Meet the Press (where Russert didn't pull any punches, BTW), you would have seen that using covert operations with special forces is the PRIMARY way that he wants the military to be involved with the war on terror. He wants to fund the living dogsh!t out of the intelligence services so that we can have the proper targets to send the black ops guys after.

I swear, bama, all you have to do is look past your prejudices for long enough to hear what he has to say. If you can't do that, then I will have to call you the three worst names that I could call anybody.

    Prejudiced, closedminded, hateful.

I also don't want my kids to grow up in a country where Art Teachers don't turn 15 year olds in to the Secret Service because of a drawing. 1984 will be here before you know it.

Secret Service Probes Boy's Art Depicting Bush As Devil

    POSTED: 10:37 a.m. EDT April 26, 2004

PROSSER, Wash. -- One drawing showed President George W. Bush's head on a stick. Another depicted Bush as a devil launching a missile.

The drawings by a 15-year-old boy in Prosser were enough to prompt some questions from the Secret Service.

Agents questioned the teen after being called by police. The boy's art teacher told school officials about the drawings, and they called police.

The boy was not arrested. The school district has taken disciplinary action but refused to say what it was.

    Nope!

    From another source

Kid's devilish W doodle draws feds

PROSSER, Wash. - A 15-year-old boy has learned that freedom of expression in the U.S. has its limits.

Secret Service agents descended on the student after his art teacher told administrators that he drew a picture of President Bush with his head on a stick. Another picture depicted Bush as a devil launching a missile.

Agents questioned the teen after being called by cops.

The boy was not arrested, but his school said it took disciplinary action against him. They refused to say what the action was or what rules the boy broke.
